New dermatologist- first time fully nude from the start

Wanted to share my experience 2 days ago. I went to a new dermatologist for my annual skin check. I also noticed a spot on the base of my shaft that I wanted to get checked out. I checked in, got called back, and then the assistant was asking me general question. I told her about the spot on my shaft that I wanted to get checked out. She then proceeds to tell me to take everything off including to “underwear, socks, watches and jewelry.” I was a little shocked but obliged. She left the room and I undressed to my nude body with nothing on and sat on the table. After about 3 minutes, the doctor came in with the assistant and proceeded to examine my naked body with a magnifying glass. Then I was told to lie back and he checked the spot on my shaft and froze it off. He then checked my back and then said was good to go. He wasn’t as touchy or hands on as i would’ve liked. He didn’t even check between my ass cheeks. I’m not sure how I feel about how thorough this was, but being fully nude from the beginning of an exam is new to me. Being offered no gown or covering was thrilling, and being exposed fully to the doctor from the start was definitely something I wanted to happened. Thank God I didn’t get an erection, I think having the female assistant helped with that lol.

That's different, I'm usually nude with a gown for annual skin checks. I'm a nudist so all areas get sun and I can't check some personally so it makes sense.

I'm always offered a gown which frankly is mostly useless as it comes off eventually.

I have been going to dermatologists since the early 90s because of the amount of really bad sunburns as a child and teen in mid 60s to the mid 70s when there was no such thing as sunblock and the only block was clothing which of course wasn't optimal in the summer. I have been fully nude for skin checks but with a gown, in my underwear only, and also in my underwear with a gown. I have had both male and female dermatologists and they all have a certain way of doing things. I find that new dermatologists almost always want to do a genital exam at the end because one told me that many people have genital warts or other issues there that they do not check for or cannot see the can become cancerous. I once did have a "discolored spot" cut off the side of my penis for biopsy which turned out to just be keratin which is a buildup of skin cells fortunately.

I’ve been meaning to find a dermatologist to make sure the moles and spots I have are healthy. The thought of having a full body skin check turns me on so much.

Only had two visits to the dermatologist. First time it was everything off and a gown. Hated the gown since when asked to turn over on the exam table, it got all twisted up. I would've rather been nude, but heck I don't have a body resembling anything in Gentleman's Quarterly or Esquire (!!!). Despite the lack of clothes, there was no genital or butt nether regions inspection offered. It was only because of a spot on my glans did I have the courage to bring it up. And wouldn't you know, there was a little droplet on the tip (as I wiped when bringing the gown up). Very embarrassing.

My second exam bordered on the superfluous. Gown and underwear this time. I swear I spend more time undressing than the exam. No genital check either. Closest it came was turning my back to her. She then pulled my shorts away for a second. I guess to see as far as the butt crack? ! A friend of mine goes twice a year (different doc) and gets the full inspection each time.

My dermatologist is a male young doctor. He comes with his female nurse and are both in the room together during the exam. I am told to keep my bra and underwear under the gown. At the end the doctor asks me if I have any concerns in my breasts or pubic area or anywhere he hasn't checked and there have been times I've said yes and he examined there. Other than that underwear and bra stay on the entire time. I've never been fully nude.

I have received full body skin checks from a few different dermatologists over the years, all of them female. Even though they inspected all my parts, public and private, I was never fully nude from the start, finish, or anywhere in between.

I had a dermatology exam about a month ago with a young substitute doctor.

She made me undress completely for the exam. It was very embarrassing.

I don't understand... if skin cancer doesn't differentiate between "private" parts of the body and the rest of the body, why would a doctor not examine every square inch of the body? Why would bra and panties stay on for a derm exam? Seems silly when the whole point is to find a potentially deadly issue. Seems unprofessional.

@GraceT you make a good point about skin cancer occurring anywhere on your body, so why don't docs check everywhere. Skin exposed to the sun is "More likely" to have issues, but I doubt the melanoma doesn't care! My experience has been the doctor focuses on high risk areas, ears, scalp, arms legs, and back. My docs have spent 90% of the exam there, with only a cursory once over of my butt and privates (if that). I suspect respecting patient modesty is more the reason than lower risk. Not saying it's a good reason, or even if true, just my perception.

At mine I am told to undress to underwear and put on a gown. They don’t ask if you want the gown so I just put it on. Usually the gown gets shoved to the side as she makes her way up and down. She will do my whole body other than what my underwear cover. She then asks if I would like those areas checked also. I always say sure and she has me remove my underwear. She’s typically standing next to me as I drop them. Last year was the first year that I had asked if it was okay to lay the gown to the side. I didn’t put it back on when I took my boxers off. She didn’t seem to mind my nudity and simply went about checking my genitals. Front first, moving everything around as she went. This caused me to get a nearly full erection. Then she had me stand and bend as she looked between my cheeks.

@GraceT The question why a dermatologist does not examine every inch of your body is correctly answered by @Rigel. Dermatologist's know less than 3% of any cancer is on butt or genitals. They also know many patients are uncomfortable being naked in front of doctors. So they skip that part of the exam.

Now here's the dermatologists dirty little secret. By skipping the genital exam a dermatologist can see one extra patient per day.....five per week. This adds between $400-$500 per.week to the dermatologists pay.

So if you want a total body skin exam.....make sure you ask for one.
