Has anyone ever used a Bidet ? How does it feel ?

@ddell2 Bidets are nowadays rare in French hotels I think… I cannot remember when I last saw one. If some were installed in the past, they tend to be removed during remodeling, to save space; both bidets and bathtubs tend to be replaced by showers (one reason is that bathtubs are a hazard for the elderly, but the main reason is to save space). Many younger French people, it seems, believe a bidet is for washing feet (only).

Very different from Italy. I saw some in Portugal.

I never used a bidet. I keep clean by wetting the toilet paper every time I wipe until it comes out spotless. But when I was a kid, I used to enjoy looking through the bathroom peephole and watching my father sit on the rim of the bathtub, turn on the faucet, and wash his ass with his hand after he finished making #2.

Only in hotel rooms. Find them odd, but that is a personal preference. Wouldnt use one regularly.

Fitted a seat version in my last place that I found in a thrift store. Brand new in packet. I had used them several times before. We even had a Japanese restaurant in Vancouver, where I lived before which had them. I also have friends that have them.

Unfortunately there is now way I can install one in my new apartment unless I hook it up to just the cold water. Not very pleasant. 😢.

I find they are very good for keeping you feeling nice and clean.

I can add my voice to those that love their Toto Washlet. I just spend 2.5 weeks in Europe and I kept looking at their bidets like "WTF how do I even use this" and then just hopped in the shower.

When I was prepping for my first colonoscopy the Washlet was my best friend.

I grew up in a house with a bidet. I think it’s a great thing, hygienic and useful. Really miss having one now.

It was always very nice to use them in upper class hotels but unfortunatley we have never had one at home

Like many here, I first encountered them in Europe, initially Italy and then Spain and France etc.. 30 years ago, I had one installed in a new home we built. Since then, I have added a Brondel unit that is great. Not much for actually giving one an enema, but the spray does loosen up the orifice when properly directed.

I use one every day. It’s great

Makes sense to me. I always wondered if I was really clean just using dry toilet paper. Obviously moisture would help make things cleaner. No wonder wet wipes are so popular, also cheaper than a bidet.

Not a good idea if you’re on a septic system! We have a bidet seat, it takes a looonnng time to dry, so we use TP as well.

I have a bidet on all my toilets and love using them, cannot stand using t paper anymore.

I have a few times, and absolutely love the feeling.

I might have used it a bit longer than necessary 😉

The toilet I was on also had a "blowdryer" setting, so I got a proper blast of hot air to the nads after the nozzle had done its job, which left me nice and dry

Being someone who always needs half, or almost a full roll of TP to get clean after a BM, I'm strongly thinking about saving up for a proper Japanese toilet with all the goodies. I'm on it a few times per day, so might as well pamper myself 😃

Some time back in a Spanish hotel I filled the bidet with crushed ice from the dispenser near the lifts & popped several bottles of lager into it! 😎

I've tried both the warm water type and the type that shoots cold water. I have to say that the heated water variety is a lot nicer and not so much of a shock.

I'm thinking of having one installed since they do get you cleaner down there. You still need a little toilet paper or a towel to dry off though.

The last house we rented in Bangkok had a bidet. I'd always been curious so I was eager to try it. It wasn't as "exciting" as I'd imagined.. Getting a stream of water aligned with my butthole wasn't as easy as I thought. If positioned just right you the water would penetrate up inside. We didn't have a bag then, just a large bulb so I much preferred having my wife squirt me full with that.

I have on it is great cleans you well just pat your bottom dry. If I’m gaping a bit now wee talking set it to pulsing and enjoy for a super clean and great feeling hole.

@Denise Yes, warm-water bidets are very nice, especially in winter. That's why I installed a mini water heater next to our toilet to heat the water for the handheld bidet and to heat the water for the separate enema nozzle.

Our TOTO has a proximity sensor that heats the seat so you always down on a warm seat. It flash heats the water to six or so different temp settings.

I tried a bidet in a hotel while traveeling. I had gone to youtube for lessons. Sprayer nozzle concentrates spray. Sit in the tub. get out, dry off. YUK! Washing poo off butt means getting hands in the water. It's a lot of trouble and time, compared to wipe off and go. not for me!!

That said, the Toto washlet system with heated seat and adjustable wand (I don't need the 'front' setting) and fan is nice. Winter time sitting on a warm seat...

@Jacana makes an excellent set of points and I love his clear explanations and examples with photographs. In 1987, when I traveled to Europe on business, I saw an actual bidet in my hotel room. I had no clue what it was used for and so I asked someone at the hotel front desk what it was. The clerk at the desk said, "It's a bidet." I nodded and left it at that because I was too embarrassed to admit further that I didn't know what a bidet was. I wish I had sought clarification because I would have loved to have used a proper bidet as it was intended to be used.

I'll blame Amazon.com for my loose use of the word bidet.

The Amazon website uses the word bidet in its description of several products that are really just sprayers for the bottom and not actual bidets. For example, the "Handheld Toilet Bidet Sprayer for Toilet-Adjustable Water Pressure Control with Bidet Hose."

I bought one of these products and attached it inline to the toilet's water supply in the master bathroom. Then preferring warm water instead of cold water on my tush because I'm a wimp, I also attached a mini water heater in the system.

Various manufacturers take the sprayer out of the porcelain bidet and they attach the sprayer to a hose, and they call it a "handheld bidet sprayer" or in its entirety, a "Handheld Toilet Bidet Sprayer for Toilet-Adjustable Water Pressure Control with Bidet Hose."

If my wife and I build another house, we will install a proper porcelain bidet next to the toilet in the master bathroom, as many folks in Europe have done.

I have one and use it everyday. I really like it, but my sister says that doctors are starting to discourage the use of bidets by women because they are associated with more UTIs. Apparently bacteria from the anal area can be splashed into the vulva.

Wet wipes are not good for the environment or for the wastewater plant.

@rigel I buy little bidet towels from Amazon to dry myself. I use the same one for several days or until it gets soiled. Launder as usual.

I would love one but have to make do with my handheld spray water bottle type. It is meant for traveling but it is too big so I just use it at home.

I have used a real one in Europe but they are not common here.
