Cystoscopy this week

Very nervous. Having a diagnostic cystoscopy (flexible) this week. I’m trying to see the kink parts. Someone separating my labia. Being in those padded knee stirrup things, which I’ve never done before. But I’m low level terrified. I was going to take two Ativan, but now I have to go by myself, so I can’t.

Thoughts? Advice? Tips? Does it really hurt to pee after it’s over?

I’d definitely ask about taking Tylenol or ibuprofen beforehand. Good luck!

It is perfectly normal to feel nervous and anxious when having a medical procedure.

I have worked in the medical field for many years. And when ever we had a patient feeling as you do we told the doctor.

Make Sure you tell the nurse and who ever else you see before anything happens. And when you see the doctor let him/her know how you feel.

If I knew where you at all and you were in the same location as me I would offer to go with you to this appointment for this Cystoscopy.

Good luck, try your best, and when it is all over take your time before you leave and make sure you are feeling ok to drive.

If for any reason you do not know any of the above information you as a patient always have the right to cancel the appointment and tell them why!!!!

And once you understand everything and you feel more comfortable having the procedure and maybe finding a friend or family member who can go with you to the appointment and be there for you.

I have had to go through this several times. I have heard that it is a bit less uncomfortable for females inasmuch as the prostate makes it uncomfortable for males. The most recent was with a flexible cystoscope rather than the rigid one. Those bladder "enemas" or irrigations weren't my favorite, as my voiding urogram was a bit challenging. Good luck with it! I think you'll do just fine.

Cystoscopy consists of introducing an optical system into the bladder to explore its condition.

We can look for the presence of polyps or the reasons for bleeding, among other things.

Taking into account the anatomy, it is true that this examination is much easier in women, mainly because the route is very direct and much shorter.

There is no need to be more stressed than when placing a speculum and taking painkillers is useless.

For the patient's comfort, the end of the endoscope is coated with a local anesthetic gel (xylocaine) and unlike men, the first urge to pee after the examination should not cause unpleasant burns.

As with any gesture that affects the private parts, the doctor's operating quality is determining, as is the trust that his patient has in him.

I've had several cystoscopies over the years. I was always pleasantly surprised that the discomfort was much less than I anticipated beforehand.

At one point a decade or so ago, I was having some abnormal findings in my urinalysis and there was some concern it could be a cancerous bladder, as my father had had. Part of the follow-up to the urinalysis was a cystoscopy. My fear of the potential findings was far worse than the cystoscopy itself. I was very relieved when all came back normal.

You are right, the “old fake doctor” is not an expert in cystoscopy but he persists in claiming to know gynecology well and to have, in his time, studied anatomy textbooks.

Yes, urinary infections generate more immediately sharp and intense pain in women, but this condition is not the essential source for prescribing to look inside the bladder.

Your statement may not be precise enough, yes the diameters of the male and female urethra are approximately identical. On the other hand, there is a very significant difference in length (5 cm vs 15 cm)

As a result, potential scratches to the wall are minimized in women and burning during the first urination is a priori less intense.
