Nurse saw me naked while changing

Going to hospital on Thursday for procedure. Want to undress in front of nurse before procedure. Hope I get the opportunity.

Sadly, I was never given the opportunity. I was lead by two nurses to an area with two curtain "walls" and opened to the large intake area. One nurse immediately asked me to sit on the gurney as she put a BP cuff on my arm. After that both left and closed the front curtains while saying everything off and.put.on the gown.

I dressed as slowly as possible but the nurse asked if I was changed before she came back in. Disappointing!!!

Also had an out patient surgery, mine was for a hernia repair. They had me naked aside from a gown that they bunched up by my chest during the op. When I came to in recovery the nurse was there and after a few minutes removed my IV and “helped” me get dressed. Helped is in quotes because I was no help at all. I was sitting in a recovery chair, she took my gown so I was totally naked, placed my feet through the leg holes of my underwear, then stood me up so she could reach down and hike them up into place. I remember her sizeable bust smashing into me as she helped me stand. I wasn’t totally coherent or I might have enjoyed this a bit more!

I don't know whether this post is fap fodder or not, but nurses have seen everything, and I do mean everything. From what I've heard, it's not a big deal from their perspective, and they are trained to keep things professional even if they do walk in on a situation like that.

@SenorDG1967 I too have an inguinal hernia that emerged in January. It does not cause me any pain, but I thinking of having it repaired near the end of this year.

Was yours repaired traditionally by cutting through the abdomen? Or with a scope?

Did they shave you? Just want to know what I'm in for.

@computerstation traditional open repair, done outpatient. They did not shave me, but had me shave everything near the incision site the night before the procedure.

@SenorDG1967 I'm not sure which procedure I prefer. I think I leaning toward the scope so recovery is faster. Although, a friend of mine says with the traditional method, doctors can make the repair and not use mesh to mend the opening.

I'm always shaved so that's not a concern.

I didn't realize it would be so hard to dress after the surgery. Good thing for helpful nurses!

@SenorDG1967 - It's interesting that they told you to shave the night before, as the past couple of surgery's that I've had they've told me not to do that due to concerns about getting a MRSA infection while in the hospital, so I've instead used a set of clippers using a 1 or the lowest level to trim down hair on my arms where they'll add an IV line or the surgical site. To be fair I kinda get it. It’s such a very fast paced working environment, so to them it’s just a normal thing, it gets things done faster to just drop off what they need, rather than waiting around for you to finish. Yes, it’s definetely embarrassing for the patient, but they’ve probably seen hundreds or thousands of people naked.

If it’s just a curtain, it’s not like they can knock

@gwg0818 I’m with you, was just following instructions. I know the recommendation has changed, but the risk is pretty small, and MRSA isn’t as prevalent in clinics. I’ll do it everytime if it speeds up how long I have to wait!

This discussion is not about what the nurses are thinking, but our reactions & feelings about what's happening to US! I've heard this dialogue, which sums up the situation for me: Patient is naked, obviously embarrassed, doctor/nurse says re-assuring, 'Don't worry, I've seen it all.' Red faced patient replies, "But I'm no used to showing it all!"

I had my tonsils removed in my late 20s at an outpatient hospital. When I was discharged the nurse told my wife that she could go get the car out of the parking garage and that she would bring me down in a wheelchair to the front door. After my wife left the nurse proceeded to get my clothes out of the locker and told me to sit on the side of the bed. The nurse told me to take off my gown and put my shirt on. As I pulled off my gown (I was now completely naked) the nurse took my white briefs and slid them up my calves while I am sitting naked on the side of the bed. The nurse handed me my shirt and told me that I could put that on and button it up. She proceeded to put my jeans on and had them sitting below my underwear and then put on my socks and tied my shoes. She then instructed me to stand and she lifted up my underwear and jeans. She said some people get dizzy and that is why she didn't want me to bend over while getting dressed. I have never been dressed by anyone as an adult and I was surprised at the time that she was doing this with me. Upon reflection I have found it to be kind of a turn on. Anyone else have that kind of an experience?

A while ago I had an appendectomy, was discharged less than 24 hours later, I had to dress myself all alone and then walk to the hospital entrance all on my own. No wheelchair, though on that occasion I might have welcomed one. I was still quite sore even though it was a laparoscopic appendectomy (holes in two places).

Not exactly the nurse. I was in the hospital before Xmas when a young girl came in to tell me I was going home. I decided to use the toilet first and while I was in there she came in to help me get dressed, As she's crouched in front of me she asked me to spread my legs to make it easier then said "I recognize you, you're the crossing guard at the high school" I said you have the advantage there because I never doubled as the girl's locker room monitor. She got a chuckle out of that. I asked when she graduated and it was just last year.

@agracier I agree! The surgery was outpatient and I was supposed to go home the same day. I was the last one to be discharged because I kept falling asleep all afternoon. The doctor was concerned that I was having a bad response to the anesthesia so I was the last one left after all the other day surgery patients had been released. It was nearly 4pm and the same nurse had been with me since I arrived at 6am. I think I was so sleepy because I was overtired from work and having a toddler at home and was short on sleep! The wheelchair exit was mandatory for everybody being discharged (this was the 90s). My wife had a laparoscopic appendectomy a few years earlier (different hospital, same town) and also had to be wheeled to the exit. I was told it was a liability issue.

Risk management at most hospitals and clinic require wheelchairs to exit regardless of procedure. It's for the legal protection of the institution.

@bobsie regarding wheelchairs. Student nurse story. I was assigned to assist discharged patient to lobby to go home. Bringing the wheelchair, I found elderly man, already dressed, with the plastic clothing bag on his lap. I told him I was to help him to the lobby. He said that he was capable of going down himself. After a chat about hospital rules, he got into the chair, and we left. In the elevator I asked if his wife was picking him up. He replied, "No. She's in the bathroom changing from her hospital gown into her street clothes."
