Has anyone had a transvaginal ultrasound that was not for pregnancy exam?

I had one as part of investigation into bleeding between cycle which found small polyp.

My wife has gone for three ultrasounds...two of which I was able to go with her. It wasn't anything to do with her pregnancy, just something her doctor wanted her to get checked. The first one she was lying on the table and i was on the side of her, so I didn't get to see anything but watched the screen, which was pretty cool. The one after that i was standing behind the technician and was able to see everything. It was pretty hot to watch.

Being a guy, I never had a transvaginal ultrasound; however my urologist did do a transrectal ultrasound (aka, TRUS) to verify the size and location of my prostate prior to a Urolift procedure. Before she started she told me it's similar to what women have done except the probe slides in more easily in the vagina than the rectum, so you just need to relax more.

I’ve never had TVUS when pregnant but had loads over last few years. Sadly they seem to be preferred to a physical examination which I far prefer. Had a very quick internal for incontinence last week and been referred for an internal scan. It’s a male consultant radiologist doing it. Hopefully there will be a bit more to it

My ex went to a new gyno awhile ago due to hormone issues and He gave her a very comprehensive exam and even a basic ultrasound where he found a cyst on her ovaries. She was supposed to come back and they would see if there were any changes and if they should do something about it.

She's friends with another Dr in the practice, that's how she found her new gyno and there is a couple more male Drs that she doesn't know. Last week was when she was to go back so she called and her new Dr was on vacation and they told her they like patients to see all the Drs in the practice anyway so would she see another Dr? She was a nurse and knew places are like that sometimes so she said no big deal, she assumed she was gonna get another abdominal ultrasound at most and wanted it taken care of

She went the other day and she likes to tell me about all her exams so I asked her how it went. She said you're gonna enjoy this story.... I said great! Lets hear it

She went to the office and checked in and talked to her friend for a bit and then the nurse called her and her friend said " Don't worry Dr whoever is pretty gentle you should be fine" she thought why would he end the conversation with that?? Nurse got her vitals and weighed her and and brought her into the exam room

First thing she saw was one of their little paper gowns that are like a vest open in the front on top of a drape. The nurse saw her face and said "He'll want to do a basic exam since he's never seen you before............... And then we'll do your TVU!!! SHIT!! She said

I wasn't up on my abbreviations and asked what a tvu was and she said a transvaginal ultrasound!! I said I know what that means but please tell me how it all played out

. she said the nurse said take everything off and put the gown on with the drape over your lap and I'll be back with the Dr in a few minutes. She prefers when it is just her and the Dr so she wasn't exactly happy with the nurse coming back with him, but she stripped and put the gown on feeling anxious

Dr came in and chatted for a couple minutes and she felt a bit more at ease and he was nice so it was time for the exam which she figured would be quick... He said no breast exam needed but not anything else to skip

He went about the ENT and then listened to her heart and lungs where he "moved over and below my boobs so there was still that" he then pushed all over her abdomen and her gown opened up exposing everything anyway

Then it was time for the stirrups to come out and the nurse helped her feet in them as the Dr gloved up. He said he would do a basic pelvic and brought out the speculum and did a bimanual where he could feel the cyst. She definitely didn't enjoy that but said he was fairly quick and he was gentle

I wasn't sure I should ask about the tvu so I just asked how bad was it?

She said she saw the nurse put a condom on a wand and handed it to him while she lubed it up quite a bit so she was happy about that at least

Then he shoved it up my vagina!!

She said it hurt a bit and took a little bit of time but wasn't horrible. She was tense because she didn't think that was gonna happen and she'd never seen Dr whoever before and didn't know he was gonna violate her like that

She told her friend he could've given her a heads up but all was the same so she was happy about that

I didn't like that she was in discomfort, but I did in fact enjoy the story

They’re not the worst experience in the world. Uncomfortable when they can’t find what they’re looking for or having issues, but they’re not all that bad.

I have had several to monitor cysts, fibroids, etc. Weirdest part was inserting the wand myself.

I've had a few. I actually don't mind them. I always get this one tech who will insert it for me. She gets me into this groggy position and is always gentle.

Yes and it was one of the most uncomfortable procedures next to being cathed

I have. I was pretty nervous and anxious about it leading up to the appt but all in all, I'd say it was kind of a non event in terms of invasive gynecological procedures.

The room was basically completely dark, I got undressed from the waist down and got myself situated in the stirrups. The doctor got the wand all lubed up and handed it over to me to insert myself. Then it was about 5 minutes of lying in silence while the doctor moved it up and down and side to side occasionally pressing into various internal parts of my pelvic area.

Pretty wet and lubey when all was said and done, but definitely not painful and only uncomfortable for the fact it that kind of felt like a medical professional using a very underwhelming dildo on me.

Yes for infertility testing. I previously had a partner that was very blessed. It had been a while since I felt that ‘full.’ It was oddly enjoyable. I had heard horror stories but for me it brought back pleasant memories 🤪

Tight pelvic floor x 5 tvus = nope. They hurt. And I argue when they say I need one.

Yes, I have done many because of my pelvic problems, it is a routine test for me
