I pay very little , I bought my everyday cloth diapers & plastic pants 12 years ago ,along with special trousers and about 300 different onesies , yes I blew like $20,000 ,however none of my diapers are near "carwash rags" and none of my good Plastic pants have wore out ,I wear between 5-9 diapers a day with Pp's & onesie ,if it's only me and aide I don't bother with pants around the house .
My disposables that I wear when going out are paid for by insurance as is my barrier cream ,catheters, gloves and drain bags.
I do buy and use baby wipes for cleanup ,I usually buy them in cases when they are buy one get one free.so it's basically in bulk ( adult wipes are bigger more expensive and rarely ever BOGO , So using baby wipes is more cost effective , you use more wipes than an adult sized wipe ,however when half the wipes are free ,they cost alot less ).
So incontinent by nature DL by choice .for something to do I will buy bags of diapers to test ,I feel I can't have an opinion on a paticular diapers good or bad points unless i wear it for every change in a day. At this point I have tested almost everything available,so it's only a bag here and there when a new diaper comes out ,I don't really test the "trailer trash" medical brands or store generic brands . . I live in one of the 3 states that I know of that will pay for Tranquility ATN as the top diaper ,I get 3 cases a month which is more then I use ,I usualy give alot of them away otherwise they take over my house. So my diaper spending is maybe $275 a year on "test subjects" & wipes.I could not test diapers and spend maybe $10 on wipes0 , but when you are incontinent diapers become just another ADL, So testing them spices up life ,and being incontinent if I have a spectacular diaper failure it doesn't matter because its expected once in awhile diapers fail or leak .
I also do alot of mentoring in care giver communities ,most people newly in diapers or newly being cared for end up with wet beds and clothes from cheap diapers and want to know is there better that will keep me dry overnight or doing specific activeties , having a specialized knowledge of where and what to try can be very helpfull ,and rare , alot of people really are unfamiliar with adult diapers let alone the concept of ABDL ,ABDL has effectively created it's niche class of diapers, that has exploded the diaper market and is growing ,as people truly need diapers above the institutional care setting level , many incontinent live independently or are cared for in there own homes ,so a diaper that needs changing every hour or two is a new problem instead of solution .
