Sometimes. But it is not always predictable.
It’s been a few years, but I participated in NaNoWriMo once (for fantasy fiction, not erotica) and was desperate to make the 50K word count to win. I had not done that the previous time I had participated.
I had a writing nook, perfect for me, all set up in a cleared-out closet. On the weekends off, I would sit at the desk with my writing playlist blasting in my ears (usually instrumental without lyrics, as songs with words would often distract me too much from actual writing… because I live to sing, yadda yadda), with a mixed drink within reach.
Reading some of the hints on the boards, someone suggested to us who were struggling with pumping out the words to write… whatever… since editing should not really take place during November, etc. And, well, the combination of whatever was in my glass that night x however many I had + jusssst the right music in my ears suggested a chapter. I “met” a new character in the first few paragraph, then explained why she was outcast among her kind, which was actually the result of her parents‘ unauthorized sexual relationship….
Long story short, it was the longest chapter, written in the shortest amount of time, that I have ever written because, as I was writing, I was so even physically invested that the words just poured out of my fingertips.
Not only did I get quite wet just writing but I also made my word count!
