Upon arriving at the military unit to commence my compulsory military service, I was filled with both excitement and uncertainty. After completing the registration process, we were directed to a large hall where, in groups of about twenty, we lined up. At the stern command of the officer, we were ordered to remove all civilian clothing. This moment, filled with hesitation, marked the complete loss of our privacy.
Once undressed, we were left standing in just our underwear. The coldness of the room and the stark white walls accentuated the sterile and official atmosphere. I noticed two female nurses observing us from the back; seeing them whispering and lightly laughing among themselves intensified my feelings of shame and discomfort.
We were then asked to step onto the scale one by one. Under the scrutiny of the female nurses, each of us had our weight recorded. Despite their professional demeanor, the sensation of their gazes made us feel exceedingly vulnerable.
Following the weigh-in, we were instructed to perform various physical exercises to assess our fitness. Raising and lowering our arms, squatting and standing—all under the attentive eyes of the female nurses—deepened our sense of embarrassment.
The most intimate moment came when we were ordered to lower our underwear to our knees for a circumcision check. Standing in such a state before the female nurses induced an indescribable sense of shame and humiliation.
This entire process was part of the discipline and obedience inherent in military service. However, the presence and demeanor of the female medical staff made the experience particularly challenging and unforgettable, leaving a lasting impression on us.
After the examination, we were directed to another area for shaving and uniform distribution. Here, each of us received a standard military haircut; our hair was cut short and neatly. During this procedure, completely naked, we watched as our hair and beards—expressions of our individuality—were removed. The clippings adhered to our bare skin, amplifying our discomfort and embarrassment.
Once the shaving was complete, we were instructed to don our military uniforms, fully transitioning from civilian life to military existence. After dressing, we proceeded to designated areas to surrender our personal belongings, which were cataloged and stored.
Subsequently, a thorough search was conducted to ensure we possessed no prohibited items, emphasizing the importance of discipline and security within the military.
With these procedures concluded, we officially joined our unit and commenced our military duties, underscoring the serious and disciplined nature of the transition from civilian to military life.
