Suppositories in the UK

Hy everybody,

I stay for the next two weeks in London and would like to know which kind of suppositories and thermometers I can get there at an pharmacy.

Does anybody know that or can help me?

Over the counter just laxative ones. I can remember paracetamol suppositories but that was over thirty years ago.

I didn’t realize the Brits used rectal meds. I figured it was because the French like suppositoires so the English naturally dislike them 😃

They are uncommon in the UK these days. As a teenager at school, we covered going to a pharmacy in a German lesson and there was a collective sense of disgust at the mere thought of taking suppositories when the teacher mentioned it!

In Germany actually there will be remarked a lack of medicaments: especially pills of certain medicaments are nor more available, but suppositories of these ones are still in stock.

Well the thermometers are just the digital ones, not like the old mercury ones. They are much harder to find but it is still possible.

Ducolax or glycerin both available, and any sort of digital thermometers

There are probably more suppositories available that you have to ask for because they are kept behind the counter in a mini fridge .

I wouldn’t expect to find many butt related items, anywhere in the U.K. France, Germany, Netherlands, and the Scandinavian countries would probably have them. Rectal thermometers, especially glass….doubtful, unless it was a private citizen, with a vintage stash.

@JJM Curious why you say that for the UK but not the other European countries.

The information that I have comes from my personal travels and discussions with others. It appears that the anus is taboo in the U.K., in general. Although I’ve heard that I have no way to confirm it.

Anglo-Saxon countries have typically avoided accessing the butt for medical reasons. The possible exception was the U.S. and Canada prior to the 1980s. Strangely, the U.S. is probably the anal sex capital of the world.

As for the availability of suppositories outside that of my own Country, I'd much rather read a number of personal posts by British/UK members that can confirm (verify) their OC status. While I'm not a British citizen I do have blood relatives living there. Oh & a sibling living in western Europe of whom regularly travels between Belgium, France & Germany.
