Privacy in childhood

What were the privacy norms for using the bathroom in your house when you were a child? I was raised by a divorced Mom and was the only boy of 4 kids, and as a boy I feel like my privacy when I'm the bathroom was considered way less important than anyone else's in the house. Mom routinely came in the bathroom and sat on the edge of the bathtub and had conversations with me when I was stinking up the bathroom. When I dared to suggest--*very* respectfully, since she wasn't afraid to punish for any backtalk--that I was uncomfortable with it, she laughed and said "I changed your smelly diapers for three years, I can stand the smell." This went on into my teens. My sisters also barged in a lot although they didn't stick around talking like Mom did. Anyone else have a similar environment growing up?

There was no expectation of privacy when i was a child at home or at school, and i think that's normal, as it would be in institutions such as the military, i really dont see the point in privacy really, for example the demise of open changing rooms and showers in England just seems rediculous

In my home there was little privacy when I was very little but at about age 7 or 8, my mother became much more cognizant of my modesty around her and was respectful of it. That is not to say that at certain times, if I was very ill for example, those boundaries might not be less stringent. The idea of privacy with my father was a bit more complicated. When older, he would certainly knock before opening a closed door but in most situations there was little embarrassment in places like locker rooms, swimming pools, or other places where casual nudity might happen. He saw me naked frequently and I him. He certainly saw me naked every time he spanked me. He had probably seen more of my bare bottom as a boy than I did. LOL.

There was more privacy when it came to toilet issues but not near as much as with my mother. He was more respectful of privacy when I might be sitting on the toilet but urinating, seeing or being seen, was no big deal.

In my case I had zero privacy from the age of 9 when my status changed until 16 when I was granted some.

9 years old I had the same privacy as and six months old has that did not change until I had my 16th birthday when I was given bathing rights

I e I could take a bath or shower on my own apart from hair washing.

18 I was granted the right to wash my hair on my own

21 was aloud to change my diaper

Do I now regret my decision that many years ago no way I could not be any happier I still get to sleep in a car bed

I pretty much had control of my privacy in the bathroom. Up to age 9 I didn't like closing the door, except maybe to wipe. I didn't like feeling disconnected from the family. My bedroom door was the same, open even when changing or naked. But my parents didn't want me to hang out naked in my bedroom. Being naked was OK only when in the middle of changing into something else.

I sometimes found my bedroom closed when I woke in the morning and would immediately get out of bed to open it. (I found out some years later my parents would close it if they might be planning on having sex.)

Age 10 was the age I discovered masturbation and therefore wanted a lot more privacy. That was respected for the most part but they did want me to have the bedroom door open when I had friends over (even male ones).

In a family of six kids, privacy was nonexistent. us kids were more respectful than Dad and Mom. The bedrooms had no locks and our parents seemed to feel it was they're obligation to show up unexpectedly. It wasn't much of a problem till puberty hit when all of a sudden embarrassing "issues" began to "pop up". Being my diapers and rubber pants were how I dealt with my needs put me in grave risk, So many close calls....

Once, when I used to go to the downstairs' bathroom after supper to do my business and then play a bit with my diaper stash. Mom suspected I was up to no good. There I was sitting on the toilet doing my business. Divine intervention was the only thing that saved me. That day I just wasn't in the mood to play with my diapers. That happened rarely. with no lock on the door the only thing that prevented someone from barging in was the knowledge that there might be unpleasant odor.

Anyways Mom opened up the door like I was BUSTED! only to see me dutifully at work doing my business. It was obvious in her face that she had intended to catch me in the act. Of what, she didn't know. But it was something she was sure of. Fortunately for me all she got were some unpleasant odors. Thank God she didn't do that again. But there were other times privacy was an "issue"....

I can't say we had any privacy when we were growing up. I was the oldest of three and my sibs were girls. We all shared the same bedroom until I was 12 and all of us were still wearing diapers at night. Both me and the oldest of my sister were bedwetters, mom diapered all three of us mostly at the same time in our room. The oldest of my sisters and I were bathed together until my sister started puberty. But I never felt like I wanted something different. It felt so normal for all of us to be together, sleep in the same room, get dressed together and mess around together. We added more rooms to our house around the time I was 14 and I got my own room so I had more privacy as did my sister who seemed to want it more than I did. That was when we stopped bathing together since we had our own bathrooms finally. I was still wetting my bed and wearing diapers and rubber pants as were my sisters so we played around in diapers, we were quite open about it. Puberty obviously had an impact on us, my sisters more than me wanted more privacy. However we were often together when mom diapered us so we saw each others bodies and private areas even then.
