Why should topless be illegal?

In France, being topless for a woman is legal in some occasional public places, like beaches (sea, or lakes), or some city woods (but it's rare).

When I was young (70s-80s), I think maybe between 30% and 50% of the women went topless at the beach. Now it's hardly 10%. Thanks to camera, and to skin cancer prevention (which is a good thing).

In some cities, men are not allowed to go topless in the streets. Most of the times, when the police catches them, it's just a warning, but theoretically, they could get fined.

In the end, I don't like the double-standard. Every one should be able to go topless, or no one. And as I like to go topless sometimes, I'd rather say : any one ! 😁

In New York City and I am pretty sure the whole state of New York it is legal for a woman or man to be topless in public. The cops used to approach women and try to get them to put their tops back on, but now the cops are not even supposed to approach a woman who is topless.

Going topless shouldn't be a big deal. If it were to be made universally legal tomorrow, there would be a Hugh and cry for about a month and then everyone would be used to them. Guys would still look and admire but it would be the same as admiring a woman on the beach in a bathing suit vs ‘oh boy I got to see something I’m not supposed to!'

Why are you shy to show your breasts? At the naturist resorts I visit are much people, young, older, very old, and nobody is shy to show his/her body. It does no matter if something hangs a bit or there is a pound to much. Every person is beautiful and should be proud to her/his body. And I'm sure, you are a much beautiful lady, who don't need a top to hide something.

I agree @Nurse_Phillips. After my accident I didn't wear a bra, for ease of hassle for X-rays, dressing, and not to aggravate my shoulder. The boobs got achy from the lack of support and even got a bit chaffed and sore underneath. It was not pleasant. How others do it I don't understand but all the more to them to do what they want.

Men and the women they brainwash enact laws, vis a vis public nudity, to protect themselves from having to bear responsibility when they perform the acts they claim the laws are supposed to protect women from.

The laws don't protect and when the law is violated, the victim, in almost every instance, is blamed to some extent by the cops who investigate, the juries who deliberate, the judges who pass (weak or no) sentences, and yes, even by the victim's families and friends.

Being topless is not illegal in many warm European countries, which rely on tourists. In Greece you see many topless Scandinavian females on the beaches. When I lived in Copenhagen seeing topless females in the park was not unusual, and I have seen female cyclists topless.

I think that it is fair to say that topless is not practised when walking along the main streets in most countries. As with most questions of etiquette, you have to be sensible and be tolerant of what the locals expect.

Going topless is not illegal in cold countries either, but one can be fined/detained for causing a public disturbance or flaunting public morals. All the police need is one phone call with a complaint.

If for instance you want to go topless in Brussels without having the police all over you, you will have to wait for an event like a Gay Pride Parade for instance. And then as participant. Otherwise it is a no-no. Things are not that simple or straightforward.

I love the optimism. But the acceptance of gender fluidity and same-sex rights is on the down-slope with more and more politicians using the issue to stoke up outrage, scare parents and suck up to religious extremists.

Plus we are in a period of economic downturn and distress, not to mention a serious war such as has not been seen in 80 years. Such times are never conducive to sexual tolerance.

My state and the ones on both sides of mine have no laws against being topless. Individual towns can have ordinances banning it but those usually get shot down when taken to the supreme court. However the cops still find ways. For instance I am involved with a race track that has a dirt parking lot. We run a “bring your own car” race one night a week. When leaving a guy may do donuts in that parking lot. It's private property and we don't care if someone does so the cop on the gate has no legal authority to go after the guy. He gets around that by telling the guy to stop doing it. Then if he does it again the cop cites him for “disobeying”. So the cops can always find a way to get around the lack of a law.

Women in Berlin, if comfortable with their own bodies and sometimes gawking strangers, won’t have a problem displaying their torsos or an accidental nip-slip. They can now swim topless in the city’s public pools if they choose to – just as men can. Berlin allows it, Heidenheim too and also many other cities in germany. It will take few years, then topless is normal here. Every woman is free to swim topless or not.

Because of the equality of men and women, topless is allowed for women in many cities in Germany. I think every woman should decide for herself if she wants to show herself topless, it's completely legal.
