I always thought it was quite interesting how the physical exam forms handed out by schools serve the purpose of warning boys about the exam that they're about to receive. I always dreaded school physicals, but I was never surprised by what was going to happen because the form my school sent us home with the week before included a box that said “genitals (males only).” I'm sure the girls at these schools got a kick out these “warnings” too, both as a way to tease the boys but also just because they were thankful they didn't have to go through the same exam.
I've even seen some forms that include this information as a much more intentional warning, for example, this form which explicitly mentions that a woman will be doing the “males only” examination: http://p11cdn4static.sharpschool.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_637113/File/New-Student-Packet-health.pdf
The examination includes the taking of a health history and a physical exam. The physical exam is very general-the heart, lungs, skin, eyes, ears, nose throat, abdomen, neuromuscular system and general nutrition are addressed. A genital/hernia exam will be done on the boys – the Physician’s Assistant is female so if this will cause a problem please have the physical done at your family doctors.
Another mentions that whether the genital exam is included or not is up to the parent, and then specifics what exactly that exam will consist of: https://app.sycamoreschool.com/form_public.php?task=display&formid=2183
I would like to add the genital exam for male students which includes evaluation of descended testicles and if my son is uncircumcised, the retraction of the foreskin.
Anyone have any similar experiences or examples?
