Not a fan of the mini enemas, like Micolax. Here is what they have and do:
“The active substances sodium citrate dihydrate, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate and sorbitol release the water compounded in the stool, and loosens it up. Predictable relief is obtained within 30 minutes.”
The Sodium Citrate is an osmotic agent that draws water from the body to soften the poo.
The Lauryl Sulfoacetate is a wetting agent and poo softener, similar to Colace.
The Sobitol is a sugar, and undigested sugar in your colon is highly laxative and soon makes you poo.
The times I've tried products like this, they work OK if one is not badly constipated and the poo is not either huge or very hard. In such cases, they will produce a poo, but it won't be softened much and the passage won't be well lubricated, so it can be a difficult poo.
IMO, the only really good use of these micro enemas is to make someone, who has not pood in a couple of days, really fill a diaper with firm, formed poo. For these games, they work better than a suppository. I don't think they actually draw in more than a couple of ounces of water, so don't produce a big load of sloppy poo.
