Abdominal Examination

The first one I can really remember was at MEPS. I was laying on the exam table in my underwear and the doctor who looked to be about 205 did it while I was very ticklish. Nothing erotic.

Then a bit over a year ago I had a new patient exam with my current PCP. I was fully clothed and laying back and something about her being pretty, the vulnerability of it the position, and the fact that she was checking my bowel health just hit differently and I had this erotic charge the rest of the day.

A very special kind of abdominal examination is the coloscopy. As I had my last coloscopy I didn‘t get a seditative. It was a quite intimate examination. At first the doctor examined my annus by inserting his finger in my rectum. It didn‘t hurt and it was very quickly. After that he inserted the examination device with the camera into my rectum. This was not painful. As he pushed the device forward it started to hurt terrible as the device reached the first curve. The whole way up to the end was very painful. The doctor told me that my abdominal surgeries are the reasons for the pain. As the doctor pulled the device back my abdomen didn‘t hurt while I was laying on my back. This part of the coloscopy was comfortable.

The palpation of my abdomen as my appendix was inflamed was an other very painful abdominal examination. But since my appendix was removed this won’t be a problem anymore.

As I had my last coloscopy I didn‘t get a seditative.

@passiverPatient Why didn’t you get sedatives? Personal choice or medical reasons?

@Woyzeck This was my personal decision. The doctor is working in an other town. And it‘s realy annoying and takes a lot of time to go there by bus and train.

The plan was that a friend bring me to the doctor‘s and wait there and then bring me back to my apartment. But one of the colligues became sick and my friend had to do his shift. This was very short-term. Then I decided to drive by my self.

I’ve never liked having a doctor push down on my stomach. None of the current doctors in the office that I go to have done that procedure on me, nor have they done a rectal exam. My guess is that it may depend on the doctor, or perhaps they’ve concluded that it’s unnecessary, and uncomfortable for the patient.

I love abdomen exams and I remember very well at the pediatrician been in just underpants not he exam bed and being palpated all over my the tummy

What @JuleLE says echoes for me. In childhood I had digestive problems and definitely recall abdominal palpation a number of times. Including when I had appendicitis. There is still something for me in a lady doctor feeling my tummy. I recall the coldness of hands..

As an adult this has happened but seldom!

@JuleLE it is a great feeling, lying there in your underwear and having a cold stethoscope going all over your bare tummy and then cold hands feeling back and forwards over your tummy. 🙂

Always got excited and nervous during the abdominal exam growing up because while my doctor palpated my belly, he would reach out with one hand and lift the waistband of my panties for a quick look at my pubic hair. It acted as the precursor to the inevitable genital exam.

I just cannot help it nor do I know why but I really tense up during the abdominal exam. I am in ok with a stethoscope but those deep palpatations have me feeling as nervous as a Belfast parking valet. During my last physical my PA stated I have a well developed core and taut abdominal muscles but it is impossible to assess titanium and I need to relax.

I had a couple as a kid that were memorable. The first was when I had constipation aged 6 and I didn't mind the tickling and cold hands on my stomach so much because where it went from there was taking my pants right off and getting my butt looked at, which I hated. The same doctor did an abdominal exam on me when I was 10 and ended up going home from school early with seriously bad stomach pains...my mum knew from where the pain was that it wasn't likely to be my appendix so she just took me to the medical centre rather than the hospital. It was a case of lying on the bed and pulling my t-shirt up each time, getting tickled and feeling cold.

What surprises me when I look back and because of what I've read on here about so many people experiencing abdominal auscultation that this was never done. I always did think that the stethoscope must be able to hear what happened inside the stomach in the same way it could listen to the heart and lungs, and it was a bit of a fascination but I never asked about it and never got it done to me.

When I was 18 I had gastroenteritis and remember an abdominal exam from my doctor then, and that was when I first found out where the appendix was because he told me 'I'm just going to press down here where the appendix is, any pain there?' and I remember my mum not wanting to tell me where it was when I was a kid because 'You'll immediately think that's where the pain is' (she wasn't wrong, I was that sort of kid.)

The abdominal exam for me is neutral; I am totally okay with it but its generally not something that super excites me either. The one exception is the doctor having to lower my underwear to check my femoral arteries. Having to palpate them and listen for bruits with my genitals somewhat exposed is 100% a turn on for me.

When a doctor is doing a abdominal examination they warming you up to turn over so they can do a rectal exam! In most cases they are anyway! Let me get you to turn over and bend your legs and scoot back to the edge of the table and you are fully exposed!

The abdominal exam is one of the best parts for me because it leads directly into the genital exam 😁

Abdominal exam is the best. Being exposed and palpated by a nurse or Dr. While they feel around moving downward.

I've always had a thing about abdominal exams, and I've having a think about where it atrted from. I think it probably comes from when I was little and the doctor let me listen to myself with his stethoscope. I loved listening to my heart and lungs, but I think the part I enjoyed the most was my abdomen. He would say to me "do you want to listen to the sounds in your tummy?" and then tell me "lie back on the bed and slowly place it on your tummy, going around your tummy button". When I heard the gurgling sounds I would giggle and he would say "can you hear how active you tummy is?" and get me to move it around.

Nothing ever too interesting. Just a bit of a deep push around.

I have had many experiences with it in the past.

After auscultation of the heart, the doctor performed an abdominal examination for approximately 5 minutes

I remember the doctors I had as a kid, pressing around and thumping, and asking, "does this hurt? How about here?" And saying, "ok, now take a deep breath for me and let it out." My doctor now doesn't say anything.

I remember as a kid them asking me to take deep breaths in and out also. Usually they talked about it as my tummy but occasionally as my belly. "I'm just going to listen to the sounds coming out of your bellybutton" which made me giggle. Then "Your bellybutton is telling me you've had a lot to eat". 🙂

They would press softly then harder asking me "Does your belly hurt here? Is this sore?"

I like abdominal exams too.Since as I have had problems with my appendix since I was a child, I have often had abdominal examinations. I particularly like the deep palpation. But also the examination of the belly button to see if there is an umbilical hernia. But what I like most is the ultrasound examination, when the doctor runs the ultrasound probe and the cold gel over my abdomen.

I had an abdominal exam recently from a new doctor and he spent a while with deep palpation, longer than usual which was really nice.

I wasn’t fully nude, but my jeans were undone and pulled back, my underwear was pulled down directly above my pubic area and my shirt was off as I laid supine on a fully flat exam table.

He took a good look at my resting abdomen, telling me to breathe normally as he observed. Then came a lengthy, calming auscultation. I then was asked to cough as he watched my navel area. After that came percussion, light palpation and deep palpation. I took deep breaths as he felt for my liver and spleen with a hand beneath by back, he felt my abdominal aortic pulse with fingers placed directly above my navel.

Something I really found arousing was how his pinky finger grazed and hovered over my navel at times during palpation.

Probably checking for a hernia. I had similar in a recent exam where a junior doctor was observing, he said to her "We need to look for any hernias. Ideally the patient would be fully exposed from their nipples down to their knees, but normally that isn't necessary. So I'll press on the patients pelvis [he pressed with a hand both sides] and ask him to turn left and cough, then turn right and cough".

I've had this when they were checking for an abdominal hernia "I'm going to have a feel inside your tummy button let me know if you feel any pain", and then pressed a few times and asked if I was in any pain, I found it quite arousing being fingerred over and over!

Never had auscultation done. just palpation and percussion.
