My Gyn exam today

So, it's been awhile since I've had a gyn exam. The last time I went to a ob/gyn he stated that if he find out patients enjoy the exam he doesn't walk out he runs out. I wondered what my body had done to have him say this. I never went back to him.

Fast forward to today…This is going to seem so far fetched. I promise this is for real.

I had my annual exam today at my PCP office. I got out of the hospital system and went to a medical practice that has a residency. My PCP that is the medical director of the residency came into the exam room with a female resident. They were going to refer me out but I asked to have a gyn exam today. I wish I had been referred out as they said it's no longer needed to do a bi-manual exam. Just the pap. Seems weird to me.

Both the PCP and resident checked my breasts. I have a hormonal imbalance that sometimes causes boils under my breasts during my cycle. I just finished my cycle 3 days ago. They prescribed two type of creams to help this imbalance.

Now the dreaded exam. The exam room had no gowns so they had to go get one. Again a residency so not sure how many paps they do. There wasn't a drape so used another gown. My PCP told me he was going to have the resident do they exam and he would observe. The stirrups were pulled out and my past full blown ob/gyn used to tell me to open up as far as I felt comfortable. This resident wanted to have me fully open. There was also a MA in the room. I don't know why there needed to be a 3rd person in the room. The resident put the speculum in and my cervix points downward I guess and she couldn't see my cervix. My PCP adjusted the speculum and said he wanted to take a look at my cervix. I stared up at the ceiling. He came within my vision and was talking to me while the resident took two swabs.

And then it was over. I still think I should get a bimanual exam. My PCP said it's not longer needed since the use of ultrasound. Just seems really strange to me. I might go to an ob/gyn and pay for another exam. It's been way past due from my last exam and just want to make sure everything is okay. I won't do the swabs again just the manual part.

It sounds like a good idea to go to an ob/gyn for a sec opinion. Is it worth talking to them about your hormone imbalance?

If your not feeling comfortable with the way you were examined then I would definitely seek a second opinion and consider changing doctors.
