My husband has many problems with his prostate. I will first describe our situation a little. Hubby is 80 year old. One and the biggest problems is the prostate growth, and PSA has rised to 8. He has already drastically reduced his sex power. He rarely gets a natural erection, if he gets one, is not hard enough for penetration, if it succeeds, he lose it in a few minutes. He rarely experiences ejaculation, and that creates frustration and depression for him. Ejaculation or semen came in two drops. Viagra and similar is not recommended because of the heart. Bladder emptying is difficult. The catheter causes inflammation....
I searched the internet (couple of days) and found several solutions. Prostae removal, which is not possible because of his age. His testosteron is high like in a young man. Proscar causes many negative side effects.
The last thing I found was Orchiectomy or testicles removal. The surgeon removes both testicles by making an incision in the front of the scrotum. This procedure is considered a simple surgery. I think about that procedure, as well as the positive or negative side effects.
The procedure has the least harmful effects, compared to chemical - castration -drugs to reduce testosterone levels. It usually takes less than 30 minutes and can be performed as an outpatient procedure or with a short hospital stay. In the case of simple orchiectomy, patients may have artificial testicles (saline implants) placed during the surgery.
Benefits and Risks?
In 90% of the men who undergo an orchiectomy, the prostate and tumor stops growing and starts to shrink. The main benefits associated with an orchiectomy are the decrease of testosterone production and suppress prostate and cancer growth. However, there are also risks and adverse effects associated with the procedure, including sterility, lower libido (loss of sexual interest), erectile dysfunction, hot flashes, larger breasts (gynecomastia), weight gain, loss of muscle mass, and thin or brittle bones (osteoporosis).
Benefit is the men are calmer, docile, they are not aggressive, they are not angry, They are very loyal to the last woman before Orchiectomy. They can focus on jobs other than chasing women... males live up to 20 years longer.
Concentration and mental abilities. I have found opposing views in this area. Some claim that their abilities have increased, some that they have decreased.
I want to know more direct answers, from men who have experienced this, or their wifes. Do you have any other knowledge from people stories or the internet.
