I once received contact info on a service that gave enemas. What surprised me was the detailed information that included mention of having your rectal temperature taken before the enema (s) was administered. I wanted to go there but never did.
I went to a facility ( not the one above)where colonics were given and vitals taken. The temperature was obtained orally by a nurse who gave the colonic to you.
During a following visit I had a new RN see me and I asked if I gave her a rectal thermometer to use, would she be ok taking my rectal temperature? She said she would. A few more visits and yes my temperature was obtained rectally which facilitated the colonics I got. About a month after my last visit that facility closed.
I still got colonics elsewhere but none took vitals. I requested RTs and sometimes had it done, other times not. But before I went/set up an appt. I would contact the facility and inquire about RTs.
The few enema providers I contacted were very accomodating regarding taking rectal temperatures , some even making it part of their treatments.
I’ve had home visits for follow ups due to some illnesses, and received medicinal enemas during them . Some of those visits saw me getting rectal temperatures taken whether or not I was to receive an enema. Any session with an enema, much like the colonics , being bare bottomed for the enema I first had to get my rectal temperature taken, as I was told, and as well, it facilitated the enema being given due to being as I stated, bare bottomed, somewhat lubricated by either the thermometer or a gloved finger and being on my stomach for the temperature and as a starting point for the enemas.
Now any home visits I get with enemas, my rectal temperature is taken. Only change was it went from glass mercury to an electronic unit with probe being used. I do have two mercury rectal thermometers and on a few home visits they were also used.
