In December 2015, I had a foot operation at the hospital in the northwest of the UK, this was to correct a congenital problem I had with my right foot since my birth in 1980.
So I asked what was only natural to me do out of curriocity I asked do I need a form of protection?
And this question or request was that just a couple of months before my surgery at the hospital was to take place,
When I asked if I could be diapered/put into nappies just in-case of accidents as was going to un-conscious for the whole operation however the surgeon re-assured me that I didn't need them.
And as I was only in for the day that would not be needed however when I woke up in the recovery room I did have the urge to go to use the bathroom although thankfully I caught that just in time and didn't make a embarrassing accident
However if at any time in my life I need major surgery for anything in my future then yes I will ask to wear them just in case as long as the surgery does not need to get access to my abdomen or chest and hopefully that will never happen although if it was a arm or hand operation or any other part of my body
For example resetting my bent leg bone another congenital problem I've had since my birth, then yes I would ask to be in diapers as that's a major operation in it's self and one I would only consider if my leg bent or collapsed outwerd so much that I couldn't walk
That would again involve being the right leg however that would be a drastic option if it ever happened as it would take way longer than just a broken toe /foot to repair.
And it's entirety possible I would have to get it done at a hospital abroud as it's a complexed procedure and would require my leg to be amputated then reconstructed and pins a frame to be inserted to brace the leg and of cause this would be very painful and mean I would have to learn to walk again and would probably involve me becoming temporarily wheelchair/bed bound during the recovery process.
However this is a sacrifice I am willing to make if it improves my mobility although it would take up to a year for me to recover from that operation should it happen.
Although going back to my foot operation in that case because I was not allowed to eat or drink anything in the 24 hours leading up to the operation, this was more-so, that It would not cause any problems mostly to do with the meds more than anything else.
During thetime I was out of it as in comatosed, I had no problems and even had some good dreams and was very rested although groggy when I woke myself up afterwerds see bellow about my recovery process.
The operation which lasted 5-6 hours from 8am until 2pm on December 7th of that year and in which I required major foot surgery which included temporary amputation to the toe and bones in the right foot bellow the joint and removal of 2 bone sections to shorten toes this was before major reconstructive surgery and placing a metal rod through my right foot.
My recovery was slow and it took 6-8 weeks to heal completely, and then frequent check up's at the out patients clinic which lasted about 3 weeks, although even to this day I still sometimes get phantom pain in the joint and foot although looking at it you wouldn't know apart from the scar.
During that time I was put on a combination of Morphene and Codine for the pain and antibiotics in case of infection.
Also I had to put my foot into a sealed bag with duckt tape enclosing it to prevent it from getting wet when ever I had a shower or got washed aps I couldn't get the foot wet because of the risk of soaking the area where the surgery had taken place.
As I couldn't wash it for 6-8 weeks this meant I was kind of smelly not nice, however this also meant that I had to come up with some noval solutions to this problem.
This was the last time I was in hospital/doctors for anything other than a check up or for any vaccinations.
If I ever have to have major surgery on any other part of my body and I have to stay under for a couple of days to weeks then yes I will ask again to be put into nappies/diapers.
Not that I am wishing this to happen it's just, if I had a accident in which I was hurt badly I would do this or if my disabilities got worse and I had to go into hospital for anything then that's what would happen.
The last time I wore a diaper/nappy in hospital was in 1984 on my visit to Texas When I had a bad stomach bug and was severely dehydrated because of it and was rushed into hospital, see my previous post for more info.
Yours sincerely
