Employment Physical

Submit to your exam!! Do as you're told.

Who are you to tell anybody to submit and do what they are told to do. Go back to Fantasyland, little djboy.

***

If you want the job you do the exam...aka submit. Though I am thinking @djboy maybe thinking more of a play exam. When the topic is about actual exams.

For many years I was a commercial bus driver and because I had a commercial drivers license it required a thorough physical as well as drug and alcohol testing every 2 years and even after I went back to college in order to keep the license I had to continue to have physical exams until I reached the age where it became yearly and I gave the license up. Most of the places that contracted to do these exams used nurse practitioners that were usually female so it was often embarrassing. For awhile I lived in a state where an employer could make you give a urine sample supervised by a medical professional or a trained observer. The one time this happened it was the same nurse practitioner that did the exam. If she hadn’t looked away briefly I’m not sure I could’ve started peeing.

I have had to have a physical done once a year for the last thirty years for my job. Usually these physicals are nothing more than a glorified sport's physical.

One particular physical though about twenty years ago. The doctor just happened to be a very young doctor, I am thinking he was just of residency and was very enthusiastic.

Long story short he started out checking the nurses notes and told me my blood pressure was a little high, and he would put me on some medication, and then he continued with my physical. When he got to the hernia exam instead of just checking me for a hernia he started giving me a complete genital exam, so far this was not all that embarrassing, before he finished with the hernia exam he stopped, and looked up at me with my pants and underwear still down around my knees, and started telling me that seeing how he had put me on the blood pressure medication he wanted me to come back in a week. And then if it was working and my blood pressure was good and with in the required range, he would give me a rectal exam to check my stool for blood, and he would also check my prostate, but that he really wasn't worried about my prostate because of my age. Then when all of this was done he would give me my health card. Needless to say I needed my health card to work, so I went back a week later. And got bent over the exam table and was given a very thorough rectal examination while he checked my prostate and obtained a stool sample with his finger buried in me. This was first and only time, I have had this done for a employment physical, it was completely unexpected and embarrassing.

Decades ago, employment physicals were a really big deal at many employers. I had one that was as thorough as any physical exam I've ever had. My employer's health clinic operated practically assembly line style. While the doc herself was thorough, I had an impression that she didn't particularly like her job. Just a few years later, the company stopped doing these employee physicals. I wrote an account of my experience with the thorough exam in a Zity blog post. Check out the link, if you think you'd be interested in having a look.

The thing I think that is stupid about Physicals for CDL's is how you can only go to certain doctors. Doctors that dont know you or your history. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense usually to me.

Same with flight physicals in the US. Docs must be certified by the FAA as an Aviation Medical Examiner..

One of my wife’s friends just had an employment physical yesterday. She had been trying to get a job with a particular employer for a while now, because they have better pay and benefits than her current employer, with more promotional opportunities, doing the same job she does now.

She came over last evening, shortly after her appointment. She and my wife were talking in the kitchen, having some celebratory wine to toast her new job, and I was in the living room, reading some articles online. We have an open concept house, so I could hear everything plain as day, not that they were trying to be quiet so I couldn’t hear. Anyway, “Laura” (not her real name), told my wife about her physical. Like my wife, she isn’t shy, and they tell each other everything anyway, not really caring that I could hear. For a visual, she is 36 years old, very attractive, is currently single (broke up with her girlfriend three months ago, she is bi, and has had boyfriends in the past. Never married, no kids.) She is 5 foot 8, 130ish pounds, has long, thick reddish brown hair and hazel eyes, and has a fit, trim body. She works out regularly, and has a body that reflects that. She was wearing one of her skirt suits, as she went from her job at her almost ex employer to her appointment, then a few errands before coming over. It is light gray, the material it is made from gives it a slight sheen, the blazer and skirt are tailored and snug (not tight) fitting. The skirt is a pencil style skirt, the hem about three inches above her knees, with a walking slit in the back, and she was wearing a snug fitting, shiny white silk top under her blazer, showing a hint of cleavage. She was wearing shiny suntan nylons and black high heels.

This is how Laura described her appointment. She goes to an occupational health clinic, and after checking in, had to fill out some paperwork. A nurse brought her back to provide a urine sample for the drug screen. She had to remove her blazer and leave her purse in a small locker, although she wasn’t allowed to close the stall door, the nurse didn’t watch her provide the sample, but did stand just to the side of the stall. After that was done, she was brought back to the waiting room. A different nurse called her back, and brought her down a different hallway to an exam room. It was a typical exam room with the typical exam table. After having her remove her blazer and heels for the height and weight check, and having her vitals taken, she was instructed to remove only her skirt and top, and to put on the exam gown with the opening in the back. She was relieved, as she was worried she would have to take everything off. She still wasn’t sure how thorough the physical was going to be, but the fact she could keep her bra, panties and pantyhose on was a good sign that it wouldn’t be too thorough.

Soon after she puts on the gown and has a seat on the exam table, the doctor knocks and enters. The doctor was a man, and the same nurse accompanied him, presumably to chaperone. He briefly goes over her medical history, then begins the exam by checking her eyes, ears, nose and throat, and palpates her neck, checking her lymph nodes and thyroid, Next he unties the top of the gown, and parts the back to listen to her lungs. Then he has her lower the gown to just below her breasts, fully exposing her bra, to listen to her heart. After he finished, he tells her she can pull the gown back up and he ties the top for her. Next, he has her lay back for the abdominal exam. He pulls the gown up to just below her breasts, fully exposing her abdomen. She was embarrassed that he could see her pantyhose and the panties under her pantyhose. He listens to her bowel sounds, then does a firm, thorough palpation of her abdomen, from just below her ribcage all the way down to her mons pubis. He palpated her lower abdomen over her pantyhose and panties, he didn’t slip his fingers under the waistband to feel her bare skin. He palpated right where her uterus and ovaries are located. He then felt her femoral pulses, over her pantyhose. He checked her pulses at her ankles, then pulls her exam gown back down, telling her to sit up. He checks her reflexes and has her squeeze his fingers to test her grip strength. He then has her stand up and he checks her balance by having her close her eyes, feet together, arms outstretched to her sides parallel to the floor, then tilt her head back, and has her stay that way for several seconds. Finally, he has her bend over and touch her toes while he checks her spine. She was embarrassed that he could see her pantyhose covered ass with her thong panties under her sheer to the waist pantyhose! He tells her she passed her physical, and she can get dressed.

Laura said that although she was relieved that she didn’t have to have a breast exam or pelvic exam, she kind of wishes they did because she is WAY overdue for a Pap and pelvic. My wife tells her “What the hell are you waiting for, make an appointment!” She tells my wife she knows, she had her appointment for a Pap and pelvic cancelled when the pandemic hit, and she just never rescheduled it, life just got so busy. My wife tells her you’d better call tomorrow or I will! She promised my wife she would call her doctor first thing in the morning.

Having heard all this, I wish I had been a fly on the wall of that exam room! Even though no breast or pelvic/rectal exam happened, just visualizing her with her shiny nylons, bra and panties on under the gown, still getting a pretty good physical, with her bare abdomen exposed with her shiny pantyhose and panties showing, was still exciting to think about. Now I know she will be getting a breast exam and Pap/pelvic soon as well!

The thing I think that is stupid about Physicals for CDL's is how you can only go to certain doctors. Doctors that dont know you or your history. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense usually to me.

I got my tractor trailer license in 1962 and have seen it go through many configurations until the CDL became the law of the land. I had to take the written test over again for that around 1990 and had a CDL-A until I turned 75 in 2015. My family doctor was always the one who did my physical until then. When I was 75 the renewal required THEIR doctor who wasn't even a doctor but a chiropractor. At that point I felt it was a good old boy set up and I declined. I figured at 75 I wouldn't be likely to use the CDL-A again anyway.

One of the most fun jobs was hauling mail into South Station Annex in Boston. There was a guy who came in from Springfield usually with some local cops he picked up chasing him along the way. They weren't allowed inside the mail terminal so they would be outside the gate yelling at him but ib Boston they were out of their jurisdiction anyway. The US MAIL has the supreme right of way on the highway and you don't have to stop for the police, fire, or ambulances. We did get out of the way for fire and ambulances but you definitely didn't stop for the police as being stopped like that would provide an opportunity for someone to board the truck.

I am of an age where I went through a number of pre-employment physicals.

These were required so that I was able to join the pension and life insurance scheme.

These were not optional and a requirement for employment.

The first was when I was 18. I was a little surprised as having had a number of school medicals, thought that those days were over.

The medical was conducted in a Doctor's office in the City of London. It was a normal office block with many other business companies there.

I had applied to join an insurance company, and this Doctor was used to carry out medicals for life insurance purpose, common in those days.

I still remember the name of the Doctor and I knew he came from a medical family. Age wise he was in his 60s.

I stripped to the waist and he listened to my heart and lungs, then palpitated parts of my body.

Then the big reveal when he told me to drop my trousers. I stood there naked whilst he looked me up and down.

He then slipped his fingers under my scrotum for the cough and drop test.

I can't remember whether he pulled back my foreskin, some Doctors did.

I wouldn't say I was embarrassed by the examination, it is something to get used to.

Returning to the office, my colleagues knew I had been given a medical and just smiled.

One of them I spoke to later confirmed that he had a similar experience to me.

There ARE some jobs that want you to bend over for them.

Yep! Believe or not, but all food handlers, nursery school teachers etc... in Russia/CIS and some other former Eastern Block countries have a rectal swab taken in their employment medicals. Now days still.

I had one physical where the examner came in with me in a gown. She did everything while in the gown. Reached UNDER the gown to do the genital exam, then turned me around to the rectal exam. The open back gown fell away. I'm sure she saw my scrotum from the back.

Afterwards I was led into the men's room to give a urine sample where I was watched while I filled the cup. Go figure.

During two summers in undergrad I worked for a lawn mover manufacturer. I basically tested various movers all over the city moving public parks, schools, churches etc....the company wanted to you give feedback on how each mower functioned. Since this was machinery we had to have a company physical. The physical was done by the company doctor. His office was in the factory and there was a nurse as well. There were about 12 of us in the waiting area and it was a first come first served type of office visit.

After waiting about an hour, most people just left and told the nurse they would come back the next day. I waited since I had to have the exam in order to start the following week.

After 30 more minutes, the doctor called my back. I had never met the doctor before and I did not know what to expect.

He led me down a hallway which had on one side was factory style windows and doors since this was the factory floor. Employees were at various stations of assembly and would stop and see who was coming and going. At the end of the hall was the doctors office which curved around to face the factory floor.

He made the comment that the office was not really planned so the company just created a office space for him. The company did frost the glass on the lower half of the windows so you could only directly see a person from the waist up.

I sat on the exam table and he asked several questions about my health, background and certain questions relating to the machinery which I would be testing so physically I would be tested for endurance.

He wrote his notes on the chart and then asked me to:

Strip to your shorts and I will be back in a few minutes.

I did as I was told.

I was sitting on the exam table and looked out onto the factory floor, which by that time was ending one of the shifts so not as many workers around.

Doctor came in and started the exam. Was normal in all things except really detailed on exercises and stretching, duck walk and running in place etc. which I gathered was for the job. When I looked around a couple of the men were walking past and smiled. I guess it was a normal site?

Thought I was done when he tells me:

Lose the shorts

I did more exercises while nude. Then was the hernia and genital checks although I did not get a DRE however; he did have me bend over and exam my anus.

After that he said:

Get dressed and I will see you in a couple of minutes.

I passed and worked for the company for two summers. The second summer the company had eliminated the doctor and nurse and I would just need for my own doctor to sign a wellness form.

The company did frost the glass on the lower half of the windows so you could only directly see a person from the waist up.

So if any women needed to be examined.....

I joined the Civil Service after school and was sent for a medical to a local male GP. It was my first adult examination and I know now it was quite normal medical. I had to strip to my Y-fronts (not shorts in those days) until it came to the genital examination (my first) then left naked while he filled in his notes. It was during this time that the receptionist knocked and came in to get something or other from a cupboard and I'll admit now even then I found it exciting to have her in the room whilst I was naked.

About 10 years ago, I accepted a job from a government agency and was subject to a drug and physical exam. The drug screening involved a supervised urine sample, that is, having to pee once I had stripped down to my underpants in front of a male nurse. Apparently, they had reason to challenge the authenticity of samples when not supervised. It seemed rather stern but I complied. The exam involved a complete physical including genital and DRE.

@rew2010 damn hot story. wish i could have been one of those factory workers and just happened to be walking past the window during your exam. then again, it might have thrown me off my attention to detail on my work. guess it best that i wasn't. lol

I had not heard of an "Occupational Clinic" nor what they would require for an office job.

This experience is from when I had just finished graduate school and I was going to begin working in a large organization. Their hiring procedure was a complex process of filling out forms over multiple days. One of the tasks was to make an appointment with an occupational clinic. The "clinic" had multiple locations in my city and they were located in strip malls--not a typical location for a medical facility. I made an appointment for after my work day (I was finishing up my internship at this same organization). The day of the appointment I wore a coat and tie which was typical for my line of work at that time. I also wore dress shoes that had slippery laces that frequently untied so I always double knotted them (the importance of this detail will become apparent in a moment, lol). I arrived at the clinic shortly before my appointment time. It was located in a strip mall and it didn’t look like a medical clinic. I walked in and introduced myself to the woman at the counter who was wearing business attire and she soon escorted me into a back office. I followed her into the room and she closed the door. In the room was a standard medical examination table with a paper roll covering the surface. The exam table was situated so that a person sitting on it would be hidden from the view of the waiting room when the door was opened. As I was looking around the room the office assistant stated, “You need to strip to your shorts.” When she said that I was caught off guard and repeated in my head, “Did she just say strip your shorts? Did I hear that correctly?” She then proceeded to show me a closet located next to the door that had saloon doors on it. She then said, “You can hang your clothes in here.” That’s when I knew for sure that she wanted me to undress down to my underwear. She opened the door and as she was leaving stated “The doctor will be with you shortly.”

My routine was always to undress as fast as I could so that I would be fully undressed when the doctor arrived. I’m not sure why I always felt this pressure to strip quickly, but I always have. Wearing a suit coat added extra layers that would slow me down. I quickly took off my coat and tie and unbuttoned my shirt and hung those in the closet. I took off my undershirt and then proceeded to remove my shoes. I squatted down and started to untie my shoes. Grrrrr…The double knot did the trick of remaining tied through my work day but now they were a challenge to deal with. The pressure to do this quickly probably made this process worse as I struggled to get my fingernail into the knot. I got one untied but it took a minute or longer to do so and I decided to just yank my other shoe off my foot. I quickly threw my shoes right under the saloon doors to the back of the closet in haste and proceeded to unbuckle my belt. I quickly unbuttoned and unzipped my pants and pulled them off. Standing in my underwear, I leaned into the closet and hung my pants onto a hook. There was a quick knock and the doctor immediately opened the door. The closet was located adjacent to the entry door and I was standing within a couple of inches of the door as it swung open. The doctor was aghast with a startled look on his face and took a step backward. Meanwhile, me in just my white briefs were in full view of the waiting room which caught the attention of the office assistant and another woman sitting (probably waiting for her appointment). I quickly jumped behind the door and took a seat on the exam table. The doctor followed me in and made some small talk. He proceeded with an exam and took my blood pressure (which now was slightly elevated but he said it wasn’t too concerning–probably because he knew why it was elevated!). He then looked into my eyes, ears, and then listened to my heart and lungs. He then had me lay back and continued to listen to my heart. Next he performed the abdominal auscultation and palpation. He asked me to stand up and then touch my toes. He had me walk heel to toe and then stand on one foot at a time. The final task was having me do a duck walk across the room (which must look hilarious in underwear!). He said everything was fine and that I could get dressed and then pick up a clearance form at the front desk. As I left the clinic the office assistant handed me the form with a wry smile on her face. The other woman who saw me in my briefs was thankfully no longer there.

That whole experience was totally unexpected. Why would you need a physical exam in your underwear for a desk job? Here’s the kicker…At orientation day a female friend, also a new hire. came up to me and said, “Can you believe that physical? What was the point of that?” A third female colleague chimed in, “What are you talking about?” My friend responded, “Because I had to strip to my bra and panties and put on a gown!” I chimed in with a chuckle, “At least you got a gown!” The third colleague responded, “What?? I didn’t have to take my clothes off?” It turns out she made her appointment at a clinic on the other side of town and only had a cursory exam in her street clothes. I didn’t even bring up the incident of me standing in my underwear flashing the office. I was still too embarrassed about the whole incident, but now, 30 some years later, it’s still embarrassing but it is also funny.

Yes, every year. Our company has a contract with a government agency and the contract requires all people assigned to the contract to undergo a very specific, extensive physical exam each year. The company contracted with a multi location physician practice to conduct the exams. Employees are given an order that they bring to their appointment and the physician practice handles everything.

The location I go to for my exams is a husband and wife doctor duo, plus a few nurses, techs, and some admin staff. I've been examined by both doctors at various times. I have no preference for which one does my exam. When I call to schedule I just ask for an appointment without specifying which doctor and there have been a lot of times when the scheduler just verifies the day and time, but not the provider. When I show up for my appointment I don't know who I am seeing which adds to the intrigue.

The exams are always fully undressed under a cloth gown with a chaperone for the entire exam. Genital and rectal exams always. On one occasion the male doctor performed an unexpected anoscope exam.

I look forward to it every year.

When I was 15 I used to do an early morning paper round, the newsagent I worked for informed me that he’d received a letter explaining that anyone under 16 employed to do Saturday jobs or paper rounds had to be insured and that would involve having to pass a medical, this didn’t bother me as even at that age the thought of medicals, particularly auscultation, exited me.

The medical took place at what was called the “family and child” clinic , not my doctors surgery.

After seeing the nurse for the usual eye sight check and BP I went into the doctors room, a female about 50, quite strict, she told me to completely undress, which surprised me a bit, she then auscultated my chest and back, told me to lie on the couch and palpated my abdomen and tested the flexibility in my arms and legs, but despite having me naked she never touched or examined my genitals, maybe because by this time I had a massive erection but luckily “held it in”.!!

I never had to have a physical strictly for work but a few years ago I had an unexpected physical on my lunch break while at my first job out of college. I had just joined the real world and needed an adult doctor for the first time after going to a pediatricians office through college where I saw three different doctors that all had varying levels of thoroughness. My Mom set me up with someone she knew in the medical field who took the health insurance my work provided. She told me to go and just make an appearance on my lunch break and fill out some forms so they would officially have me on file. I was wearing nice work clothes and stopped in and checked in with reception and she gave me some forms to fill out. As I was planning on leaving a young nurse came out and said actually the doctor is here and wants to meet you why don't you come on back. I already was really nervous and anxious about getting physical exams in middle school, high school and college so being at the doctors I was kind of apprehensive but still thought it was more of a meet and greet. The nurse brought me into an exam room and took my vitals and said the doctor will be right in I am not sure if he wants to do a quick physical. I almost said I have to go back to work but I knew I had plenty of time and my mind kind of froze and my heart sank when she said that. The doctor then came in and he was very clinical and stern and asked me a lot of questions. He then said okay lets do a new patient physical exam take everything off except your underwear. I was truly mortified and took off all my nice work clothes while he watched and typed some things into his computer. When I was in just my boxers he asked me to sit on the table and did a very quick eyes, ears, mouth, etc then had me lie back. He was pretty rough as he felt my neck and abdomen and then got to the part I hate as he got closer to the waistband of my boxers. Without saying anything he kind of just lifted up the waistband of my boxers very high and got a good view of my penis and testicles for probably 30 seconds and didn't feel anything. He then put the waistband down and went along feeling my legs. I was still embarrassed but didnt' think it was that bad a quick glance as the genital exams growing up were a million times more thorough. He then went to his chart however and said alright almost done just hop up and stand in front of me. He then asked me if I have had my penis and testicles examined before which I mumbled something incoherent. He then said something like "alright I know it's uncomfortable for boys your age but I am going to take a few moments to feel around so pull your boxers down so they are just below your knees". After I did that he kind of came over and touched my lower back and right above my pubic hair to steady me. He then proceeded to do a very thorough exam feeling my pubic hair and asking me if it was normal growth or I trim, doing a hernia and testicular exam and then finally lifting up my penis and feeling the shaft. He kind of made a strange comment saying that everything looked well developed. It was probably only a minute long but felt like an hour. I was then able to change back to my work clothes but the whole experience made me feel really mortified. I don't think he did anything wrong it was just a crazy mind fuck to think you are just getting lunch on a workday and then have your boxers down and your penis size commented on when I already hated physicals. I then changed to a new doctor who I have seen the last two years.

I joined a volunteer fire department as an EMT. I had to get a physical from an occupational medicine clinic. It turned out that the doctor was the father of a boy I knew back from high school. That was a bit awkward.

When I was considering joining a military engineering school, I had to take a physical that included a check of testicles. I knew it would involve that but I did not expect a female physician.

Years ago I had a pre-employment physical. Nothing exceptional about it. The part that makes it stick in my mind came several years later. The elevator was broken at the industrial complex where we needed to work on equipment located on the 14th floor. We needed a lot of tools there also. I was having to stop frequently to rest my legs. My supervisor started bitching about me being so slow. I just pulled up my pant legs exposing my legs. I was born with messed up legs and it didn't take a doctor to see they are somewhat fucked up. (As far as I am concerned they do what legs are supposed to do.) He then asked all pissed off how I had ever passed a pre-employment physical. My answer was that the company sent me to the same quack for my physical as they sent people to for workers compensation claims and their cheapness bit them in the ass. I lasted at that company, he didn't.

I bet that was rather unexpected and awkward for something like a newspaper round 😃

I was a high school senior, who had never played sports. I went to a pre employment exam for a major retailer My father worked there, and had a hernia discovered. I was taken in, and told to strip to the waist. Not so bad,I thought. This was in the 1970s before they had tissue paper walls.

The doc enters, does the normal stuff upstairs. Ok, drop your pants. Gulp. I knew he meant both pairs. I got my first full frontal that day, with the double cough as a finale.

Not that exciting, but kinda weird having the same doc that handled Dad's exam literally handle me.

Nick321 'supervised urine sample' I believe athletes have to agree to this. I heard it on a BBC interview early this year. They aren't told when but have to say where they will be each day so a tester can find them and it won't always be the same sex as the athlete. The athlete being interviewed (female) said two males came one day to her home and she had to pee into a sample jar in front of one of them, exposed from knee to chest.

@Nick321 im going to guess the reason why they observed you urinating was because nowadays, people who smoke pot are bringing in other people’s urine or filtering devices. Marijuana stays in the body for weeks, unlike other drugs.

I've had the usual cursory preemployment exam but one sticks out in my mind. I had broken both wrists falling on ice and, following a recovery/healing period, my company wanted a doctor's note to say I was fit to go back to work. They gave me a specific medical office to go to and it turned out to be just a storefront kind of place. I was shown into a room and told to wait, "The doctor will be with you shortly." After several minutes, the doctor came it, writing on a clipboard. As he continued writing he asked me if I was fit to go back to work. I told him I was and he turned and left the room, telling me to pick up my note at reception. During this time, he never once looked up from his clipboard. If I'd met him in the hallway on my way out, he wouldn't have known who the hell I was.

Recently had to do a drug screen for work which required a urine sample, have had several before.

Usually, these are nominally supervised where the the toilet is checked that there are no 'hidden samples' for you to substitute.

This time, to my surprise, the nurse came in with me and 'supervised'. This meant she was looking over my shoulder whilst I had my penis on display and did it in a bottle.

I must admit I struggled to go at first but she just made a joke about stage fright! I guess a little inappropriate but she did not come across as creepy so I just took it as her way of making light of the situation.

When I was in my early 20’s I had my pre employment exam at a doctor provided by the company. It was quite thorough and I had my first rectal/prostate exam. The somewhat embarrassing part was a bit later. There were three other guys around my age started at the same time so we all knew what the other guys exams were like (other than here, I have always been very private about my medical stuff). A month or so later we were out after work and someone brought the physical exam up. We had a good laugh about our separate, but shared experience with the doctor.
