So I have to share this experience with a orthopedic doctor yesterday --
been having a lot of knee problems in the last couple years now, and its already been estabilished as arthritis, but has continually gotten worse and worse over the course of this year, and on top of that, had a fall earlier in December and felt noticeable damage in the right knee. Got x-rays but had to wait until yesterday to see someone about it.
Now Im a pretty big guy and yes I have tried to lose weight, especially over the last few years, but these nagging knee, as well as back and also a mystery fungal foot infection that won't clear have kept me pretty inactive lately. So after pitching a few exercise options one of which was pretty absurd (suggest I take up water areobics classes when all the gyms and pools are shut down due to covid...?") he then puts on the table of getting weight loss surgery, and you know its something I've thought about for a while and honestly had been leaning more heavily towards and I said yeah I definitely want to explore that option.
I guess that wasnt enough for the doctor because he then had to point out "well without the surgery you will die early...and honestly even with the surgery you will die early"....and I'm like....WTF am I hearing now? A knee doctor is telling me I'm going to die soon? And also this after my husband, who did pass away this past summer.
And then he suggests that my foot infection was because of my diabetes....which I dont have (my regular dr remarked my blood sugar levels were better than hers), and when I point that out, he says well you'll get it eventually
Lastly, I tried asking him for any thing that could also help my mobility overall...like maybe a better brace since they feel so unstable all the time. he totally shot that down saying again I was too fat.
Also, he walked in on me while still in my undies before I could get a gown on, and he didnt tell the nurses he was done with the appt ether, he just fucking left me when I needed help back to the waiting room.
Anyone else have a similar experience like this before?
