Cardioversion

At my last physical my doctor diagnosed me with AFib. I was sent to a cardiologist who prescribed Cardioversion. I am now scheduled for this procedure. What should I expect? What happens?

HI Patient G, I also have afib and have had two serious episodes that resulted in ER visits. The first converted with medicine. The second was more serious and would not convert. On the second day in the hospital I opted for cardioversion. Quick trip to the cold OR, IV line set, pads placed, "count backward from 100". BS - 5,4,3... out! Two minutes later I was awake and alert. Whew! everything was perfect. A nurse/friend was there watching. She said I was out in 3 seconds flat. I jumped slightly and after my conversion I was awake. No pain, no adverse effects. Well worth it and if the procedure is recommended, I would do it again (in a heartbeat). Best regards.
