Scrotal Auscultation

Has anybody ever had their scrotum auscultated either with a stethoscope or doppler stethoscope to rule out excess blood flow?

Only a couple of times when young my pediatrician's stethoscope bell went between my legs and onto my scrotum as he listened. I did not know why ?

Most likely listening for bruits in the scrotum.

I think the doctor is listening to the femoral arteries and not the scrotum.

There can be a mass in the scrotum which affects blood flow. can be auscultated with a stethoscope or doppler stethoscope.

I had a Doppler ultrasound about 6 months ago to see how big is my varicocele is and if it affected my left testicle or not. Outside of the cold when he put the gel, it’s a non-event.

A very long time ago I read something about differentiating a hernia from another type of scrotal abnormality by auscultating for bowel sounds over the mass. That’s the only authentic maneuver I’ve found that would apply the stethoscope to the scrotum. Even this one I don’t think caught on much in the real world.

During a play exam I like to steth the femoral artery and scrotum. If I have done a scrotal infusion I like to listen whilst tapping and palpating the scrotum too.

Never in a real exam, but in a play exam my partner will steth my scrotum. In a real exam the doc will listen to my femoral arteries.

Never in a “real” examination but As patient I find it arousing, also a stethoscope on the perineum. In the role of play doctor I usually “auscultate” the patient's scrotum and perineum. Not realistic of course but most seem to enjoy it.

Honestly I think that in real exams the only reason why this could happen is to check hernia through the scrotum, but in a play exam I love when the Doctor use the stethoscope on my scrotum and perineum 😊

I knew a guy who had his scrotum - testicles - examined via ultrasound to locate and monitor a slight “growth” on his testicle. Once a year to see if there was any change in size.
