Has anyone asked to have their temperature taken orally

I don't know if anyone else did this, but I was at the pediatrician's office one day about 16 or 17 years old. My dad, who was in the room with me, left to use the bathroom. Pretty soon the nurse told me to lie down and turn over on my tummy. I knew she would be taking my temperature. I asked her if she could take it in my mouth. I had never before seen an oral thermometer in any one of the examining rooms, but I figured they must have had some. I assured her that I could hold it under my tongue. She let out a small laugh, and said I am sure you could, but the doctor wants the nurses to use the baby thermometer. While I didn't think my request would be successful I just wanted to try, since I felt very childish having my temperature taken rectally. This all went on while the nurse was preparing the thermometer. Next thing I knew my underwear was being taken down and the rectal thermometer inserted. My dad returned from the bathroom just after the nurse started taking my temperature and everything just proceeded as usual. I really hated this growing up.

When I was almost 5, I was already learning arm pit. Then learned oral temperatures later when my temperature was taken rectally, I was never touched by a nurse.
