I had a great experience the other day that I've mentioned in a couple of posts, but that I thought I'd share in more detail. I've had a bad cough, that's been getting better then worse, for about three weeks. So I thought it was time to go to the GP.
There was some relief when I used the electronic check-in at the surgery when I saw it was a doctor who I'd seen recently and knows that I'm a trans guy who hasn't had chest surgery yet. That makes a difference here as they were obviously going to have to go near my chest, and although I've obviously got breast tissue there from looking at me I didn't want the awkwardness of having to explain it again.
As soon as I explained why I was there he took my pulse both by holding my wrist and used an oximeter. It was one of those beeping ones so my heart rate got faster the longer it was on. He put it down to nerves.
Then he got his stethoscope out and started on the back by putting it under my t-shirt from the bottom. He listened at the bottom and then told me he'd like to listen more carefully, or something like that, so asked me if I'd feel comfortable removing the clothing from my waist up. I think by this point he'd seen that I was wearing a bra (I sometimes wear a binder but wear a bra day to day because I find binders restrictive and warm in the office). I don't know if that was part of the reason.
He drew the curtain and told me to go behind it and let him know when I was ready. Once I said he was he came in from behind, so he was only seeing my back, and started by putting both hands on my back. From looking at videos I know this is to check for expansion. He then tapped various different areas, focusing on the bottom of my lungs.
He then picked up his stethoscope again and began listening to various different points, mainly on the bottom but spending time everywhere. Up the top of my sides, nearly under my arms, with my hands on my head to keep them out of the way was definitely my favourite. He then asked my permission to go around the front and I got the exhalation and embarrassment of him seeing my breasts - particularly as he checked for expansion again.
Other than play, I've never had such a through stething in my life. My only complaint is that his stethoscope wasn't cold!
