The first medical instrument (enema syringe) that I bought happened when I was still in Junior High School. I had a paper route and after my first week on the job I had made I think a little of $10.00. So, I thought to myself, Mike, if you had enough guts you could ride your bike over to Walgreens and buy yourself your own enema bag. The thought was intriguing so I chewed on the idea for several days and then I decided to go for it. So, I did ride my bike over to the local mall where the Walgreens Drug store was located. Once I entered the Walgreen store I walked over to the feminine hygiene isle and began checking out their stash of feminine hygiene items. I must say that the store had quite a selection of syringes ranging from economy hot water bottle syringes to deluxe models. The store also had economy fountain syringes and also deluxe models. In addition, the store also had yellow folding syringes and pink folding syringes and something called a shy syringe. There were also various kinds of enema and douche bulbs. I looked and looked but I couldn't decide which one of the items I wanted. I kept saying to myself, "Mike, I wonder which one of these would do the best job?" I stood there scratching my head which probably brought attention to myself. Finally, an older woman store clerk came over to where I was and asked if she could help me with anything. This event caused me to turn as red as a beet and caused my voice, well, it sort of fad away. The clerk sensing my anguish spoke and said "Son, these are some beauties aren't they?" I smiled at her and said "yes, they are!" Then, feeling a little more comfortable, asked "M'am, if you were the one buying one of these items, which one would you choose?" The clerk smiled and then asked me "Well, son, what will you be using one of these for?" I smiled, looked down at the floor and said "M'am, I will be using the item as an enema syringe." The sweet lady said "oh, I see." She, then, stepped towards the rake and reached for a cheap Tyson Fountain syringe. The cheap Tyson Fountain syringe was in a green box with white writing on the box. She, then, handed it over to me saying "Son, if enemas is all you want, this item will do a great job!" I smiled up at her and then she asked "Is there anything else you want here in the store?" I feeling at ease replied back "I want to thank you for your help, M'am. I really do thank you!" She patted my shoulder and said "come on, let's check out!" Which, I did. Thinking about it now, many years later, I can honestly say that item was the most used item I ever bought with my paper boy money! Wish I still had it.
