This a subject ( FGM/C ) where most individuals in the Western World, Europe, and many large regions of other continents, would emphatically say this practice of mutilation is barbaric and should be stopped now. I for one would also AGREE this practice should be STOPPED. I can document that as for back as the 1920's organizations were formed to do just that.
However, It is not happening. About 6000 girls, many age 7-9, or about one girl every 15 seconds have FGM/C done to them each day. There are certain misconceptions that people have. The most common is that this is a religious ritual. It is a cultural ritual that takes place in countries that are predominately Muslin with specific sects. However it occurs in Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, and other populations as well. The cultures of parts of the middle East, Africa, Indonesia, are very committed to FMG/C and segments of about 60 countries have FMG/C routinely occurring. We have not talked about infibulation. This is even more severe and brutal. This involves more cutting and the girl is sewn up save a small hole. For childbirth she is cut open and then re-sewn. This occurs mainly in the regions of North Africa. Please note that Egypt a more modern country has the largest population in the world of women with FGM/C. Very surprising. I hope you can relate to the cultural explanations .
Please consider that chastity belt and other devices of the middle ages and even later in Europe, while not as brutal as FMG/C had a related purpose again addressing the cultural argument.
I my college days, for one semester, I had a roommate who was an exchange student from Liberia. During that time I was introduced to a young woman also from Liberia. It did come out the she had been given the ritual of FMG/C. Her mother took her to have it done where there were about 6 or 7 other young girls. Besides her mother her Grandmother, sister, and a few cousins came with her and all watched along with the other families. She would not show me her genital scars. I think she was a bit modest and did not want to discuss anything about sex. However now at age 21 and in America she was bitterly opposed to FGM/C. She did have photos of the ritual (not of her). She angrily showed and explained them.
Going to the opposite end of the cultural issue of FGM/C. I met 2 American women who have had elective procedures done, which may have posed a few ethical problems in the medical community several years ago, at their beginning. This is the other end of the spectrum, Cosmetic Surgery. I am familiar with 2 types of this. Both are designed to make the woman's vagina/genital area sexy, pleasing to see, and the woman is pleased with her sexy look, and be more stimulated. LABIAPLASTY -- may involve removing the clitoral hood or what many opt for is trimming the hood. The concern is over stimulation of the clit which can cause some desensitization. Sometimes encountered with piercing, in her case inner labia, she hated and the outer she tolerated. She and her surgeon agreed on how she would look with the final design. She was delighted and years after surgery she has the must beautiful pussy , mons, groin, and ass that I have had the pleasure to experience. Her ass was great but after the surgeon did simple Butt Lift she was gorgeous. The image of her is burned in my memory . The other cosmetic procedure is called LASER VAGINAL REJUVENATION- Simply is supposed to be a solution to the loose vaginas or pussys that God did not make quite right, many claim. The procedure is supposed to tighten up the vaginal walls essentially making a tighter box. Thus better sex for both partners. I don't know any one who has had this done. There is most likely other cures to make pussies more beautiful and tighter and other things that a lady may want.
Please note that I had researched this topic in my early years and have keep myself reasonably informed, but not perfect. I cannot condone FGM/C period. I can support Labiaplasty and other cosmetic cures if solely chosen by an informed woman of legal age. This is not that far removed from the concept of breast implants solely for cosmetic augmentation. I do not have all the answers. These paragraphs are intended to express an opinion and a comparison of the opposite ends of the spectrum.
