I don't have a medical problem but I do wear 24/7. I think for anyone who has thought about it I would also say be careful what you wish for.. but I think that if you sit down and spend some time taking into account just exactly what you are in for you can get a pretty good idea of how you might need to change your daily routine to fit diapers in.
Yes wearing and using diapers does require more work than wearing underwear and using a toilet but one can easily allow this to become normal and not an annoyance in their lives if they know what to expect and accept that. having to change in less than ideal conditions sucks but in my opinion that's allot better than having to use a questionable toilet wouldn't you agree? there are of course some things to consider.
1. Cost
If you don't have a medical problem and/or no insurance to help cover the cost diapers can get expensive. this should be something that you should figure out well before hand. can I afford it? how much should I budget?
2. Diapers on the go
One of the biggest things other than cost to consider is how do you carry around with you all of the things you will need. for myself, im an amateur photographer and I carry a camera bag with camera(s) and lenses with me everywhere. it also holds up to 4 diapers, a small bottle of powder, a travel package of wipes and cleanser, and just in case a small tube of diaper rash cream. this sounds like allot but I have gotten used to carrying around my equipment with me. my bag isn't that big and normally only carries one body and 2 or 3 small prime lenses so there is adequate room for my diapers without it weighing me down. its kind of like carrying a purse around. =) so you could also use a messenger bag or your purse but this is definitely something you need to take into account. because you don't want to be without a change. this is a big deal and should be thought about very well. do I really want to carry all of that around with me? how will I while being discreet? if you work at a place that has employee break rooms and lockers or such for individual employees this can be a great place to keep spare diapers and essentials so that you don't have to carry so much all the time. this is another aspect you should consider.
3. Uh oh
Leaks happen from time to time, for me normally from pressure ie: sitting down with a full or nearly full diaper which causes leaks on your butt. for this aspect you really need to take into account how many diapers you might use a day and what kind of diapers work best for you. the best way to avoid leaks is to change often (wearing a less absorbent diaper helps establish this routine) but will lead to using more diapers and having to find a suitable place to change (public restroom). on the other hand you could wear a much more absorbent diaper which will allow you to wear longer (avoiding the frequent changes) but could cause more leaks because you aren't thinking as much about your diaper. with either situation a pair of plastic pants could be a good suggestion but this will add another layer and during the summer it can be hot enough with just a diaper. I think that limiting your clothing choices to help be discreet is going to far, by following my suggestions you shouldn't have to worry about what you can and cant wear everyday just because you are wearing a diaper. especially if you are into fashion and want to wear the latest stylish clothing.
4a. Being discreet.
Are you worried about other people knowing you wear diapers? well this is something you should think about. i would tell you that it really inst a big deal unless you are purposely trying to show your diaper in some way, because people could care less what the person next to them is wearing and will just assume (without thinking about it) that you are wearing underwear like everyone else. so getting it out of your mind that wearing a diaper somehow targets you will be a good start in easing your unrest. as long as you are not wearing a diaper so thick that it becomes uncomfortable and inhibits natural movement you are just like everyone else, in fact the person next to you could be wearing a diaper as well and you might not even know.
4b. Being discreet
Another aspect to this is smell. I know the poo smell is a big deal and allot of people here say you shouldn't poo your diaper to spare other people the smell, but I say if you have to go, then go. you should however keep in mind that every time you poo you must change, and quickly. your diet can have a very big impact on the smell of your poo and if you eat a healthy and balanced diet and move your bowels often the smell really wont be that bad, if yours is however you should probably address this before going 24/7. pee can also have a smell especially after prolonged wear of one diaper. this can easily be solved by two things. 1. don't wear your diapers for such an extended time and 2. cleaning that area very good during changes. I suggest a cleanser such as Hollister Skin Cleanser or another that are 'no rinse' cleansers. keeping your pubic hair short (not necessarily shaved) will also help with this concern.
5. Is this what you want?
You must really decide for yourself what aspect about diapers keeps you wearing them and will going 24/7 null that.
This is where the 'medical need' comes into play because it decides for you so to speak. you should however keep in mind that there is a big difference between want and need and this can have a big impact on how you perceive and enjoy diapers. my joy from diapers comes from wearing and using them as they were intended. yours may not and trying to go 24/7 could easily become an annoyance. you need to decide before hand what exactly about diapers keeps you interested in wearing them and how will this translate into what will become a new lifestyle. because this will be a lifestyle change, maybe more for some than others but a change none the less. wanting a medical problem to decide for you could bring on so many unforeseen consequences that it likely wouldn't be worth it. you should ponder for a long while on what it really means to go 24/7, this should allow you to decide right from the get go if this is what you really want, what you might just like to try for a brief time, or if this isn't what you really want. and remember a need (medical) changes the whole experience.
In the end the most important thing to remember is that this isn't just adding something to your life this is changing how you live your life everyday. that can be a big change.
