For the past couple of weeks I have been struggling with horrible episodes of, to use the technical term, tough shit. I have long had problems with constipation but up till last week I’ve always been able to resolve them with enemas. Never really minded because for me enemas are pleasurable in and of themselves. However this past Monday, 5/20, I felt the urge to take a dump but I could tell that the stool was impacted so I decided to resort to the tried and true solution of taking an enema. Horrors, it didn’t work. As soon as I opened the clamp and the water started flowing my body rejected the intrusion and started spraying water past the nozzle, creating a nasty mess. I shut the clamp and ran to the bathroom to void the rest of the enema. I expelled the rest of the enema but no stools were harmed (or ejected) during the process. Ultimately I had to resort to digging the massive solid turds out with my fingers. Yuck! My asshole has been sore ever since.
What caused this? I don’t know but I had two theories. I had been eating a lot of hard, dry Costco turkey jerky (worst jerky i’ve eaten in 80+ years) so I tossed the rest of it. My other hunch was that it resulted from taking a pre-biotic named inulin. I stopped that, but after researching the side effects determined that diarrhea was a more common side effect than constipation so I resumed the inulin.
Incidentally, because of my chronic constipation I have taken stool softeners for many years. Anyway, this morning, four days later, I suddenly had the urge to defecate.
When I strained on the throne I could not budge the faeces. From Monday’s experience I realized that under the circumstances another enema we most likely be futile, and probably messy as well. I had to resort to digging out numerous rock-hard turds with my fingers again. Double yuck! I think I got practically all of it but I plan to take an enema now to remove any vestiges of faecal material. I will stop taking the inulin and a couple of other supplements tat may be implicated in the problem and see what happens.
Meanwhile, I am wondering if any of you have experienced similar problems and if so how did you deal with them? I’m open to suggestions.
