Enema euphemisms

"Blooper" - that's what a gal I knew called it, as in I'm getting the blooper, or I need the blooper... Seems funny.

Sorry to be a party "pooper"! Growing up it was always just, "Time for your enema", or something similar!

We never took enemas in my family so I don't have a story.

There was an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer was running around town looking for a bathroom and finally went home. Jerry asked if it was ok. Kramer said he couldn't go and had to "use the aparatus."

My dad always referred to an enema as"taking a physic".

Although never administered at home an enema was referred to as a "washout". So if I was failing to produce satisfactory results on the toilet the phrase was "We'll have to take you to the doctor's for a washout". I think at the time I had been given one enema in hospital so I knew what was meant and at the time it was not something I liked. Funnily enough the phrase is now quite exciting...

My phone's voice dictation usually transcribes "animal" for "enema" which has led to some interesting, humorous, or confusing replies when I've failed to catch it and edit it by hand.

Last time I skipped dinner so that I could have the stomach empty in the morning, I hadn't told him specifically that I was doing a cleanse, and when he saw me skip dinner, he asked, " So you are going under the bag in the morning?" I just nodded enough that he could see it!

Back in the day, the conversation usually began with "you need to be cleaned out" or "I'm gonna clean you out real good tonight" or something like that. But after that it was the word "enema" throughout the entire ritual. Seems like she focused on that word (or did I?) while filling me to the brim with soapy water. It was all matter-of-fact; no sugar coating. No wonder it became a sex word to me.

Toxinectomy

My late wife, a nurse, coined that for play. While no one else has ever heard it, I thought I should share it for others to pick up or, at least, be humored by.

In as much as I love the word enema and love hearing it mentioned; I wish those I knew would say the word, enema, instead of using a euphemism. It's like the person is afraid to say, "enema".

I have heard "can opener" used to humorously refer to an enema.

"plan on getting cleaned out tonight, Honey"

she always asked, "what do you mean?"

"you're getting an enema tonight"

"So can any of you remember any 'nice' ways you might talk about getting an enema?"

No, my mother always said "enema".

However, sometimes while playing I've used or heard a euphemism as a tease, e.g., my wife saying "toxinectomy".

My girlfriend refers to an enema as a visit from the elephant when letting her son know what's coming.

"Water treatment", "water therapy", and "reaming", which I don't recall mentioned here yet, are other terms my wife sometimes while playing; I believe she got them from a work of fiction with an obsessed health nut as a character.

My mom used the word enema when she spoke to me about it. However, when she spoke about it to relatives, she used the word " solid purgation" She said she was going to give me a solid purging. Someone might have thought he meant laxatives. My aunt used a different word. She said "the baby would be relieved". Once, when her daughter was overeating, her aunt said that they would come back home and her daughter would feel relieved there. I didn't know what he meant; the cousin blushed. I found out what it means when I overheard my aunt's conversation with my mother.

Mom was a very professional non-nonsense extremely efficient highly awarded yet compassionate RN, but she never used any other term in telling us or asking us about getting one except enema. I don't recall that any of us Minded at all.

As for a euphemism, I have heard the phrase "tummy wash". Naturally I can't recall from whom, when it where. But then they say the memory is the first to go. That's a lie, it's the second. Now at the age where third and fourth have also gone😂

My mom who took lots of enemas did the same... My mom was addicted to them, but she never let on that they excited her.

It was always referred to as a "fill"around here, as in "I need a fill" or "you're going to get a fill". If there was a discussion about "filling"- they were talking about volume, recipe, or time of the event!

That's not a euphemism at all. If anything, it's the exact opposite. It's literally the same word...

I might have been may 10 or 12 when my Gran was in the hospital. She had a semi-private room meaning that there was another woman in there with her. My mom and I went to see Gran during visiting hours, but I don't remember why it was me instead of my sisters. Anyway, while we were there a nurse came around and asked the patients whether they had moved their bowels or not. Gran was OK, but on the way home mom told me that after visiting hours the other woman was going to get "the works." I had never heard the term and when I asked what that meant, mom said "you know, a good enema."

Years back my wife and I used to administer enemas to each other all of the time, and in order for us to talk about them in front of our two sons, we developed the code word "Valentine" as a euphemism for enema. Strangely, that only worked for a short time as my oldest boy soon asked my wife if a valentine was an enema. I couldn't believe he figured that out so quickly.

Woooh! Happy to see this post of mine still going strong. Nothing more gratifying than starting a stimulating discussion. Now there's a word... stimulating. "Johnny, you need something to stimulate you." I reckon that'd be a pretty good enema euphemism! 😜

My cousins would comment about one or the other getting “The Water Works” which as I told in another post would lead to chuckles when playing Monopoly when someone asked “Anyone Want The Water Works”?
