Old style clyster syringes

I lately came across a clyster syringe in a museum. Probably made of tin, wooden handle... and a thick and long nozzle. It is of course difficult to measure things through a glass display case, but it seemed to me the nozzle was as thick as one finger and a half, and perhaps 15 cm long. Clearly something that one feels in one's behind, far from a normal nozzle from today's cans or bags.

I'm wondering... Perhaps this was a vaginal nozzle (the museum seemed to imply it was for enemas, but maybe they just stuck any old syringe with a nozzle) ? Or perhaps people in those days (when anal sex was a crime, go figure) were used to getting thick nozzle up the rear ?
