Steve Martin's Colonoscopy Party

The other night I was watching Jimmy Kimmel and his guests were Steve Martin and Martin Short. They were on promoting their new Netflix special.

I'm a huge fan of both these comedians, especially Steve Martin.

What really caught my interest, besides some of the comedy that evening, was the discussion of Steve Martin's colonoscopy parties.

Well, all I can say is: they were a wealth of misinformation!For instance...drinking barium to get ready...barium is radioactive (really, ROFL!). Whatta pair of maroons! sic - Bugs Bunny.

No... Barium is used medically as a radio-opaque contrast medium. While there are radioisotopes of it the bulk is stable. Bismuth is the mildly radioactive one, and it is so weakly radioactive it took them over a hundred years to figure out that it was.

The barium sulfate used in a barium swallow/barium enema is a non-radioactive contrast agent that will help your doctor and radiologist to better see the outline of your throat and esophagus. The addition of the barium to your swallow allows the normal x-ray to visualize soft tissue that is normally invisible.
