Until I was 17, we went to our family doctor, and his office and exam room were in the same room. So, the doctor was usually there, right from the start of the exam, unless he needed to step out. For the earliest years I can remember, probably when I was 5-10, I was undressed at the beginning. I wasn’t really asked, it was more like we’d walk into the room, they’d close the door, and my mother would either undress me, or I started doing it myself when I was 7 or 8, probably. That’s how it had always been, so I just expected when I went there, I’d be undressed right away. The only instruction from the doctor, or nurse, might be saying I could leave on my briefs. That became more common as I got older. Before then, I was always completely naked for the entire exam.
I do remember waiting there, a few times, if the doctor had stepped out, or during the exam he’d go in the other room for a few minutes. It was awkward, sitting or standing there, especially if the nurse, or another assistant, was still in the room. They were always women.
Despite the fact that I always had done it this way, I did certainly become more self-conscious as I got older. Probably as I started school, that was the case. It was also then when I had my first school physicals, which was the first time I’d ever had to undress in front of strangers. Those were also in an exam room where the doctor, and nurse, were always in the room, and I undressed from the beginning of the exam. I guess this was when these medical situations became less innocent for me, but also when my medfet began.
