School Spankings by Female Teachers

I got whacked on the butt in Kindergarten. No pants down, just one good whack. Why? Kind of funny. I went Calvin mode(from Calvin and Hobbes cartoons)imagining I was a Buffalo in a stampede when it was time to get coat and line up to leave. Knocked a little girl flat and got a whack and told to sit until everyone was ready.

In first grade the teacher had a paddle, the type that originally had the rubber string and ball. One boy received the paddle on several occasions. She would get paddle from desk, go to his desk, take him out of chair, pull pants and underwear down and spank his bare bottom with 10 or so whacks. Funny, only him, and I never knew what he was doing wrong. But kept me in line. She scared me.

Not me but I had a teacher in elementary school, memory is hazy but I think 4th grade, who was very sadistic and I suspect was a little too interesting in punishing students. She had it in for this one kid in particular, always yelling at him, singling him out. Like if several people in the class were all doing something wrong, she’d punish just him. Usually it was mi or stuff like being held in during recess.

One day however, she was really on a warpath and especially mad and yelling at us all. As per usual, she singled out that one kid but also announced he was going to get paddled. She left the room briefly and brought in the Vice Principal (who also taught classes; I guess it was a part time title in this small school) who happened to be in the room next door.

This seems wild now in retrospect. But she actually started arguing with the VP over who would administer it. I assume the normal procedure is the VP administers all paddlings, but she was arguing - loudly so we could all hear, mind you — that she needed students to “respect” her and it had to be her that paddles the kid. I guess I don’t know how that argument ended, but the three (kid, teacher, VP) left for about 5 minutes.

That it was only 5 minutes is notable, because she marched him back into class and he was absolutely bawling his eyes out. Like uncontrollable sobbing. She clearly didn’t give him even a second to recompose himself, and I think she did that quite on purpose to humiliate him.

In the 50s my brothers and I attended a co-ed Catholic school run by nuns. There were 2 types of students, day students who returned home every day and boarders who lived in. I never saw or experienced any spanking during my years. The reason was that the nuns beat boys, and only boys who lived in, after the rest of us had gone home. Girls received much gentler treatment. Day students were spared the rod but were punished in ways that did not leave any evident marks. I found this out because we stayed on as boarders for a couple of days when my mother was in hospital. I witnessed a nun beating a boy with a cricket bat. She'd taken off his shorts and underwear and placed him on all fours on the floor. This was in the dining hall while we were eating our dinner. It was vicious and sadistic and both my brothers and I were shocked by the violence.

Day students were spared the rod but were punished in ways that did not leave any evident marks. There was one day student who wet himself very often. Mostly when he was screamed at by a nun. He must have been 5 or 6 years old. When it happened in class the nun would stand him up on her desk in the front of the room, remove his shoes and lower clothing and leave him standing bare on display while she left the room to get the clothes seen to by one of the maids. Then she'd return with a damp cloth and wipe him down. He was made to turn around and bend over so that she could reach his testicles from behind ensuring full display of his bottom and privates to all the boys and girls in the room. He was a tall skinny little boy and I vividly remember his little pointy penis waggling about when he was being wiped down. This process took about 10 minutes and he was fully exposed to all the boys and girls. It was clear that he was very embarrassed and the expression of shame on his by now crimson face was obvious. He was sent back to his seat, still bottomless, for the rest of the lesson until his clean clothes were returned. This happened several times during the school year but the nuns often punished other boys in similar ways. Thinking things over now, it appears very clearly that the nuns believed that boys were to be humiliated and subjugated.
