I can't count the number of posts I've read relating stories about how someone was to receive an enema AFTER breakfast, lunch or dinner. Sounds to me like a perfect recipe for lots of cramping. No wonder many children HATED enemas, at least till they discovered the sexual aspect of enemas. Nothing like stimulating peristalsis, then filling 1/3 or 1/2 of the large intestine with soapy water.
When I started self administering at age 8 or 9, I figured out that if I did it on an empty stomach, there was less cramping and when you did have cramping, they were less intense. Now, if a 9 year old could figure that out, why couldn't our moms, aunts & grandmothers?
Same thing with the bag being hung on the shower curtain rod?? 6.5' to 7' above the point of entry, YIKES! A 2 quart bag empties lightning fast from that height. Good for lots of cramping, for sure. I know there are many adults here who like the cramping brought on by these practices, but did you like them back in the "Golden Age?"
Were our moms, aunts & grandmothers really in the dark about how the digestive system worked back then? Did they hang the bag on the shower curtain rod cause the wanted to get the enema over with as quickly as possible? Maybe it's the way they got them as children? It's no wonder many of us had a love / hate relationship with the red bag in the "Golden Age."
