I took a full year of anatomy and physiology for my sophomore year (this last year actually). During our study of the cardiovascular system, we did a few different labs regarding the heart. (One including doing basic 3-lead EKGs on our lab partners) But one of the labs we did was learning to take blood pressure. So there were stethoscopes everywhere! Which for me, was enough to raise my usually-low blood pressure up a bit, hahaha.
Basically, I was at a lab bench with three other girls. (All three were nursing students. I'm actually a bio major with an education concentration, but used this as a bio elective) The point of the lab was to learn to take blood pressure, then measure it on our lab partners with their arms in three different positions and record the readings. One with the arm heart level, one with the arm over the head, and one with the arm held below the heart, so that we could recognize the differences in the readings and what they meant. 😃 So in that lab, I got to play with blood pressure cuffs AND stethoscopes, and took blood pressure on three different young ladies. Not as exciting for me as it would be for some of the guys out here,
I'd imagine. 😉
Being me, fascinating by stethoscopes and the heart...I already knew how to take blood pressure before the lab, haha. But one of the girls was really struggling with it. So our professor had to come over and help her...with me being the guinea pig. Oh lord, my face was RED. Hello, embarrassment. He showed her where to place the stethoscope, how to position the cuff on my arm, and what you were listening for while watching the dial. :x Easily my favorite day in lab thus far, but also easily the most embarrassing for me!
