If it involves my mouth, nose, eyes or my pelvic region, my doctor better be wearing gloves no matter what. Play or not.

Breast exam, it's fine to be bare handed as long as the person doesn't have fresh (less than 6 months) piercings. Same for belly button rings. No reason to risk infection.

Medical gloves are recommended to be worn for two main reasons:

1.To reduce the risk of contamination of health-care workers hands with blood and other body fluids.

2.To reduce the risk of germ dissemination to the environment and of transmission from the health-care worker to the patient and vice versa, as well as from one patient to another

Gloves should therefore be used during all patient-care activities that may involve exposure to blood and all other body fluid (including contact with mucous membrane and non-intact skin), during contact precautions and outbreak situations.

The majority if not all NHS hospitals have moved to blue nitrile powder free non latex gloves due to the increase in latex allergies of both patient and staff. Where I work gloves are an essential component of patient care due to exposure to blood and other bodily secretions or fluids.

Our unit only uses blue nitrile powder free gloves for all non-sterile procedures for the protection of both the patient and healthcare worker . If you have ever witness and treated a severe life threatening anaphylactic reaction to latex you would only be too aware of the possible compilations of overlooking such a simple procedure as ensuring a patient or healthcare professional possible allergy to latex. In addition we also avoid using anything latex in my clinical environment.

AMEN regarding latex. I have had my share of anaphylactic reactions from latex and latex products (natural rubber). I can testify that it can be very terrifying!

For those of you with a almost non existent allergy to latex and latex products, be aware that allergy can turn near deadly with your sensitivity and allergy to it without any warning. It is in SO many things. If you have this allergy, PLEASE make your family, friends, associates, your medical providers know. It can either end or save your life. Latex is in so many things, almost impossible to mention all of them. Here are a few other than gloves: glues, paints, balloons, bandaids, steri strips, , parts in syringes and with injection vials, dry latex packaging for medical supplies and various countless items, gaskets etc used in a medical setting, OR, ER, ICU etc, tubing, catheters, tourniquets, enema bags, condoms, elastic, liquid latex such as used for masks, prosthesis such as those used for theatre, and my list could go on and on.

You can also have delayed allergic reactions that are equally terrifying and can be just as fatal if not arrested. Another thing to watch out for is the food you eat, buy at a store, restaurant etc may end up being prepared with someone wearing latex gloves or other people in the area wearing latex gloves. Be aware you can have an allergic reaction.

There is actually a lot to know about this allergy, especially if you have it and/or those you know who have it. This allergy also can trigger other allergies, as it has in my case that is directly connected to this allergy.

Hopefully, if you have this allergy, it remains almost non existent to mild.

I always use gloves for the pelvic and rectal exam.

Most oft my patients love the feeling to be touched with gloves.

I absolutely love the feel of amber or white real latex gloves penetrating my rectum. (Of course, I have no latex allergy). It gives a much different feel than bare skin going into me. A thick coating of Vaseline tops off the feel and I want more and longer penetrations. Knowing that a colon tube, or inflatable nozzle is coming next, heightens my erotic thrill.

Yes to gloves, although Nitrile is safest because of allergies nothing beats the snapping of a latex gloves 😃

I always use nitrile gloves in case someone is allergic. I go without gloves only if asked and I wash my hands with antibacteric soap before/after the exam.

Gloves if exploring body orfices. Even if it is "General Purpose" (non medical) grade, its still better than no gloves.

General Purpose grade would be the ones you find at the local hardware store by the Paint section.

Well if it is a date no gloves. If I have to bandage someone gloves, same with examine unless they are my partner or someone close. Catheters gloves as well. If I am going to put a finger in a butt gloves. .

Yes, exactly. And jimmy's quotation marks on "sterile" are there to mean emphasis on the word, not to mean "sort of sterile" or "pretty/mostly sterile." Many people don't realize it, but the word STERILE 1) is an absolute, like "unique." This means some item(s) either IS or IS NOT sterile. Also, 2) it actually means devoid of any life forms capable of reproducing (thus causing infection). Nonsterile medical gloves or nitrile or latex ARE NOT STERILE, and aren't going to be made sterile by alcohol, hand sanitizer, or anything else you think you're sterilizing them with. The gloves must be bought sterile and say STERILE on the package. Further, you have to handle them in a sterile manner once opened. Without a lot of detail, if you don't know and have practiced true sterile technique like doctors and nurses learn for surgery and other things, you shouldn't be touching hopefully sterile spaces like your or your partner's urethra or bladder. There's a specific way to sterilely put in a urinary catheter. If you don't know it cold already, don't catheterize anyone until you learn it from a medical professional.

Why all the fuss? Simply put, for example, hand organisms-->catheter-->urethra-->bladder (UTI, lots of pain, fever, etc.)-->kidney (pyelonephritis)-->bloodstream (sepsis, septic shock)-->+/- DEATH.

Upper and lower GI tracts aren't sterile, so you can still use nonsterile gloves there, but be sure they and your other equipment is still clean before starting.

I can think of using gloves if you are doing anal fingering and the one doing the fingering has long nails- that may help not to feel the nails. And if the person being fingered hasn't clean themselves with enemas before anal play then gloves would be a good idea. But overall I would prefer not to use gloves because they take away from the tactile sensation.

It's mostly a matter of taste, but I pretty much use latex gloves for everything anal just to (feel and) keep clean. I sure as heck lose sensation from a condom during PIV, sensation I really want to have and experience. In anorectal play, though, having the original, unaltered sensation on my fingers isn't so important and I still enjoy it with gloves. Yo do need to be careful with long or jagged nails, as they can slice right through latex gloves, even if you're not doing anything really vigorous.

I love the feeling of gloves especially in rectum but have taken temps and just spread cheeks and inserted thermometer no finger play without gloves. usually I am the one getting my temp taken though

I'm always worried about hygiene so whenever there's any anal play, I feel gloves are a must, whether in the context of medical play or not.

When it comes to medical play, I generally prefer to use gloves throughout the whole exam, and will definitely put them on before getting to the genital exam (at the latest). If allergies are no concern for the patient (I have none), I prefer latex because I love the way they feel, even their color and smell. I start with non-powdered ones, but if I'm changing them for a fresh pair later on I often go with powdered for the second pair, simply because they're easier to don. Otherwise nitrile are also OK, taking a close 2nd place.

Often I will switch to surgical gloves for if the appointment includes injections or the genital and anal/rectal parts of the exam, and maybe throw in a surgical mask for good measure 😃 . I love the feeling of surgical latex gloves even more than regular ones.

I definitely like exam gloves being used in real and role play physical examinations. My preference is latex because I like the fact that they can fit more tightly than Nitrile. I like using gloves when the exam transitions from the more innocuous parts of the exam to the genital/rectal portion of the exam. It gives the patient a signal that the exam is about to move into the more intimate body parts and allows him a few extra moments to think about what is coming. I prefer to examine the body parts other than genitalia and anus with bare hands and then don the gloves when moving to those parts. When I am performing the exam, I prefer medium sized latex gloves because they are slightly tight for me and take extra time to pull on.

Gloves are a definite yes for me. For the parts of the exam where where there is contact with mucous membranes (mouth, vagina, rectum) gloves are mandatory for exams I am involved in. For the other parts (breast, skin checks, etc), gloves are optional at the discretion and desire of the patient.

As far as what gloves do I use, I prefer latex if there is absolutely no history of allergy or sensitivity. If there is, or if the patient prefers, I will use nitrile gloves.

Gloves add to the whole authenticity of the scene.

I would use them because in my opinion it's better to be safe than sorry and I would go with nitrile just to be safe cause of latex allergies and stuff like that

Gloves give that clinic feel I seek. And plus, overall safety. I mean, they’re worn for a reason ya know. But the feeling of being touched by a gloved hand is great.
