In what state of dress does your exam end?

In my case the first part of my exam I'm only wearing my briefs - nothing else - in the second part off the come and then I'm in my "birthday suit"!

But I know from a friend of mine, that his undressing happens step by step during his exam.

In the first 10 minutes comes off only his shirt, then his undershirt - later his trowsers and so on. At the end of the exam he has returned about 4 to 5 times into the cubicle to hang up an other piece of clothes. I realy cant get the sense of that!

What are your experiences?

These days, I rarely even take my shirt off.

I have never had a physical in which there was step by step undressing as you said your friend has experienced. My exams have been started with me either stripped to my briefs or with just my shirt off. The exams have all ended with genital and hernia exams or with genital, hernia, and rectal exam so I either have my briefs down or pants and briefs down.

I have been with the same doctor for a long time. During my yearly physical I am in my underwear from the onset. I am weighed and have my vitals (bp temp respiration) taken in my boxer briefs and I am subsequently examined by the doctor in the same manner. I am then askd to remove my underwear for the testicular and prostate exams.

You only remove clothing as required for the examination to proceed. We don't really have "well men checkups or yearly physicals" as such , although they are slowly introducing them at some surgeries.

Traditionally there have been "well women checkup" as a result of the introduction of the contraceptive pill, but even now they usually remove the top half of clothing get their breast examined redress and then remove the bottom half for the pelvic exam. In the 70's and early 80's it was not uncommon for women to be asked to strip completely and then cover themselves with a sheet for their "well women check" ( without any type of chaperone being present) but nowadays this does not occur.

Like RN1993, my exams, which are done by the VA, are piecemeal undressing. (A far cry from the Navy where it was "Strip to skivvies and socks.") I see my PCP twice a year. (Early Spring and Fall.)

The Spring Exam if a full physical, but it is strip as you go. Starts with removing my shirt, then unbuckling my trousers, then dropping them and my shorts for the hernia/genital/rectal exam.

The Fall exam is basically a quick wellness check to adjust meds, check heart/lungs, etc. My shirt will come off, but hardly, if ever, my trousers.

If I go in for a specific complaint, then only the are affected would be exposed. For example, if it's an ear infection, nothing would be removed because I don't have to remove clothing for her to have access to my ears. If it is my knee, then my trousers would come off, but not my underwear, etc.

The final state for me is after the exam itself, when the nurse bares my bottom for injections.

For the last few physicals I have had with two different docs, I have been told to take off my underpants for the rectal exam so ended up completely nude for a minute at the end.

Assuming this is a full physical, I'm completely nude from almost the very start to the very end. For example, here's what happened at my most recent physical. The nurse takes me back and goes over history/meds first. When I entered the exam room I noticed that a gown was already out and sitting on the pillow of the exam table. They use cloth gowns and it was individually wrapped in a plastic bag. After doing the preliminary steps she tells me to "take everything off except my boxers, put on the gown so it opens in the front". As she begins to leave she states that she will be right back to do my EKG. I casually tell her that I actually hate gowns, and don't understand the need for them, so I won't be bothering to put one on. She says "that's fine if you're more comfortable that way" -- the sign of a very good nurse as far as I'm concerned.

I strip down to my underwear (white briefs, not boxers as she assumed) and wait for her to return. She comes in, makes some comment about "so you really didn't use the gown" as if she didn't believe me earlier. My reply is "I told you I really don't need the gown" or something like that. She has me lay back as she attaches the leads. I'm now laying there in just my white briefs as she does the EKG.

When she finishes with that and as she is about to leave I hand her the unopened gown, telling her again that I don't think I'll be needing it. She tells me that she'll leave it with me in case I change my mind, or in case my doctor wants me to put it on. I tell her that I will take a paper drape if she has one, saying that I like to use one of those just to cover up while the door opens and closes. She agrees and hands me the drape.

Once she leaves, I stand up and pull off my briefs, putting them on the chair on top of my other clothes. I'm now fully nude and stay that way until the doctor finishes with the entire exam. Taking a seat back on the table, I put the small paper drape over my waist area -- just to cover myself when the door opens and closes.

My doctor arrives and begins by sitting down and going over my meds and history again. As she approaches me to begin the hands-on part of my physical, I set aside the paper drape, saying something about "I don't really need this now that the door is closed". She agrees and begins the exam. When it's time for the traditional male parts of the exam, I stand up in front of her (she's now sitting on a little stool pulling the exam gloves onto both of her hands). Then for the rectal and prostate exam, I get on the exam table on my knees and elbows.

So that's it. Nude from almost the very beginning to the very end. I've done it this way for some time now with a few different doctors and it seems to work out just fine for me. And so far, I haven't run into a doctor that really objects to it.

Absolutely I enjoy that. I've never denied that and I'm fortunate to see doctors that don't have a problem with that, or perhaps even enjoy it themselves. As I described, my PCP (internist) is fine doing it that way. And sometimes I actually get the impression that she secretly enjoys it. She doesn't come right out and say that, but just based on her comments and her overall demeanor during the exam, it just might be something that she enjoys. It may simply be that she understands that I enjoy it and she's just kinky enough to go along for the ride. I don't know. But she is human and everyone does have their kinks. 😃 But she doesn't get upset when she enters the room and I'm nude with just a paper drape. And when that's removed, she's fine with it. She doesn't storm out the door and immediately bring in a chaperone. And she doesn't open the gown and demand that I put it on.

I also am completely nude when I see my dermatologist for a full body skin exam. That's done every 6 months. And for that one there is always a female chaperone in the room along with my female dermo.

So yes, I enjoy it and I have two doctors that either expect it (in the case of the dermo), or go along with it.

So the exam ends with me totally nude.

If I am scheduled for a general physical, I am asked to undress to my boxers (the gown is there, but the nurse tells me that it is optional). If I make an appointment because I have an upper respiratory infection (which often involves laryngitis), then it all depends. I have had nurses ask me to just wait in my clothes for the doctor's arrival. I can remember other occasions when I was asked to remove my shirt only (bare chest) and wait for the doctor.

I have had both types of exams. Traditionally, my exams have always started with me stripped to my boxers or boxer briefs. I've always hated the strip as you go exams, as I have had some of those in the very distant past. And what good does it do to unbutton and unzip your pants? Really, how much time does that save the doctor when they are ready to examine you down there?

Maybe to prevent nervous fumbling about when the doctor tells you to lower your pants? Many patients are already nervous when they come in and unbuttoning and unzipping is a not inconsiderately delicate set of actions ...😃

Perhaps. Or maybe it serves to warn and prepare the patient that the doctor is expected to examine that part of their body. In any case, still a waste of time as far as I'm concerned. Just strip down and get over it already. It's really much better that way.

I was also thinking that maybe having a patient do this is a bit of very discreet med play on the part of the nurse or a way of asserting dominance. It certainly sounds like a fun little element to introduce into a play exam for instance ...

This looks like all guys....but, as a girl, mine always ends in a gown. For physicals and my yearly anyways. Physicals, it starts out with underwear and a gown. For the yearly it's a gown with no underwear and a sheet on top of my legs. So much paper!

In most real exams of my adult life I am usually asked to just strip to my undershorts. When it comes time for the genital and rectal parts, the doctor usually just asks me to lower my briefs to my knees, and is usually quite specific about that. So in actuality, I am never technically completely naked for any part of the exam since my briefs never totally are removed. I suppose this is the doctor's nod to maintaining one's modesty for the exam. As soon as the doctor is done then he always specifically says, "You can get dressed now."

However, as I tend to wear very small thongs, I tend to take them fully off... They don't really just go down around my knees very well.

I always have the patient in a gown with a sheet before I examine them unless the affected part is just a limb. The nurses instruct the patient to undress before I see them. When the patient is not undressed I frequently will see another patient until they are. I don't have the patient undress completely as that would be demeaning and they would get cold. I can't understand the idea of having the patient undress completely. It is very important to respect the patients sensibilities.

For all of the physicals that I've had for the past decade, the doctor always asks me to strip and put on one of those hospital gowns with it open in front. He/She (I've had more than one doctor) completes the exam through the genital examination.

The last bit is always the prostate/rectal exam, for which they ask me to stand on the little step by the exam couch and bend over with my butt in the air. (I mentioned to my doctor that this was really embarrassing... She said she understood, but the more you can bend over, the easier it is for her to do the exam).

I've never figured out a good solution for what to do with the gown -- which hangs down in back -- so I usually just take it off for the rectal exam. So I'm usually naked when the rectal exam is performed.

It used to worry me that maybe my med fetish was coming out by removing the gown that way, but my wife is a nurse (and she is present for all of my exams) and has never made a comment about it. So I'm assuming I'm not doing anything wrong...

The last physical exam I had ended the same way it began. Fully clothed, none of my clothes were removed.

For the most part, my exams start in briefs or boxers, i usually waive the gown, and end with me nude for the DRE.

Cbank got it right. If I'm at the gyn it's gown and nothing else. If I'm there for a regular physical with my GP its gown and underpants. Dermatologist skin check starts out with gown and underpants then the gown comes off then the pants come off. If I'm in because of a complaint, it depends on what the complaint is.

I'm like the other girls -- gown with a sheet -- nothing under the gown.

With my present doctor the exam ends with me naked but the gown covering my lap. I feel pretty vulnerable.

In my childhood usually the exam ended with me completely nude or at least with underpants down to the ankles and nothing else; in a few cases ended with me wearing only a White t-shirt (no underpants, nore socks). As a doctor, usually my female patients end their exam completely nude.
