Thank you Curly66. I greatly appreciate the salute. We nurses work so hard, we don't make that good of money for what is required from us and for all we do and have to know. It's an honorable profession and one that I can honestly say I am proud of. Also, I am always proud to say that I am a nurse.
Yesterday I was at my auction house that I go to every Wednesday. I sell a lot on Ebay and that's where I get my items to sell. I have been going there for probably 10 years or so. Needless to say us regulars are sort of like a huge dysfunctional family of sorts, lol. But the owner and head auctioneer at the start of the auction announced that it was National Nurses Day/Week and that people should stop and thank a nurse. Then he called me up front and everyone stood up and applauded. He does that for the Vets on Vets day, as well he should, but he's never done that for me before. I was a little embarrassed, but I was very moved, touched and honored that my second family took the time to say thanks to me. I actually got a little teary over it.
You know I have said this a thousand times in the past but it's worth saying again. We nurses and all medical professionals for that matter work very hard, long hours. We put our lives and the lives of our families second to our patients and our jobs. Our loved ones often suffer because we GOOD nurses are dedicated. At the end of the day which NEVER end on time by the way, we are exhausted, starving, emotionally drained. We often times are covered in blood, sputum, urine, emesis, or fecal material, or any combination of those. Our hair is a mess, we are sweat drenched, and usually smell a lot different than we did when we started. We often have been bit, hit, kicked, slapped and or punched. But at the end of the day we walk out the door with our heads held high knowing that we made a difference to someone that day. All we really want in return for our daily sacrifices is for someone to say thank you.
So seriously, if you know a nurse take a second and let them know that they do make a difference and that you recognize that they work hard. I promise you you will see the biggest smile you have ever seen, and will probably see a tear or two.
