I can still remember the first time it didn't feel cold too - 1st October 1996. I wondered at first if the doctor examining me had used the bell instead of the diaphragm (I couldn’t see - I was in a neck collar) but with hindsight I think it just had a non-chill rim.

Sort of. I had two doctors listen with stethoscopes that should have been cold - neither had a non-chill rim, but I don't remember them being cold.

Maybe the cold feeling was made worse by being taken to the doctor as a child when ill and having a temperature, such that the cold stethoscope felt colder than it actually was.
