We have a collection of four leather hoods and three made of stretchy spandex material.
One hood is just a heavy black leather bag with some breathing holes on the top of the head (so no light gets in) and has a chain around the neck so you can lock it on with no hope of removal without the combination of the lock. I feel most confined in this one.
The second is a full head leather hood that laces up in back and has neoprene air bladders on the right and left sides you can pump up to put pressure on the head and face. Again, this has no holes for eyes and only one for the nose. It also locks on. Heck, what's the purpose of a hood it if doesn't lock on???
The third one laces up in back for a tight fit and has holes for eyes, nose and mouth and velcro to hold in position the leather covers over the orifices so you can keep certain things open if you like and they also lock on behind the head. I may open the covers for the eyes and nose, but who the hell wants to hear the submissive talk???
The fourth is a lightweight deerskin hood that laces in back and is soft and thin enough to show the facial features but be totally light-proof with two holes in the nostril area for breathing.
We also have a few in black spandex that pull over the head, two have holes for the nose, one doesn't have any holes.

Hoods are great for creating claustrophobic feelings. While those things don't bother me or my husband at all, we love the sensation of isolation and being totally at the whim of the other. A couple of other friends we occasionally play with just get very apprehensive which is great for doing other things to them, especially medical manipulations. We use the leather hoods only on ourselves and the spandex ones we use with friends because they are easy to clean in the washer and they aren't too expensive if we need to throw them out. The all leather ones are costly.
