I have been clinically depressed most of my life. In college, it led to my dismissal, "flunk out, " as a freshman. Most recently, it surfaces as grief after the death of my wife. At other times it can cause me to become disfunctional, especially during the holiday season.
Some of the remedies that have helped to relieve my symptoms are:
1. Try to help other people be happy. I especially like to play Santa Claus where I can talk about Adolph the Brown Nosed Reindeer, or ask a stuck up self righteous old lady if she has been a good girl this year. She will of course answer, emphatically "YES!" My answer, will be, "That's too bad!"
2. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
3. For me, I avoid Psychiatrists! If they had answers, they wouldn't be Psychiatrists. They might prescribe medications and some of those chemicals might help, but I doubt it and the side effects can be worse than the cure. However, vitamin B-12 and D-3 can be helpful.
4. TAKE AN ENEMA! Remember the the body is in itself a whole energy unit. What you do with one part of your body, especially your mind/spirit, effects the rest and vice versa. When your colon gets plugged with poisonous waste your brain and spirit become clogged and dysfunctional. An enema not only clears the waste material, it also stimulates and rejuvenates the colon thereby re-energizing the whole mind and body. After a good cleansing, I usually have a feeling of euphoria.
5. Get out and exercise!
6. Breathe! Take a dozen deep breaths, hold each one for a moment and then release. As you release, let that negative feeling and energy leave your body with the negative breath. Take time for yourself.
If all fails, go to step 4 because an enema a day, keeps the doctor away!
