Regular Instruments for Unconventional usages

Does anyone use any of their instruments in a non-recommended or different way? Like using a speculum for spreading a mouth? Just curious!

I like to use a rib spreader for a specula either for rectal or vaginal procedures. Gives much better viewing. Using a local anesthetic and taking time to open the area is important. But not to much time.

I often use the otoscope with it's smallest speculum to look a little way into the urethra of my (male) patients. It's cool to see a nice pink urethra disappearing into the distance 😃

As long as you are talking about topical anesthetics and not injected or inhaled then it's all good.
