Ever have a long wait undressed in the exam room before the doctor came in? Did the nurse ever come back in while you were undressed and waiting to tell you when the doctor might come? After undressing for the exam, where did you leave your clothes and were you ever self-conscious about how you left your clothes in a pile?

No, not me.

Yes, I have been in that situation. There have been a few times that I can remember where the nurse did the preliminaries for a physical exam, then had me undress and I ended up waiting a long time for the doctor. As I've posted before, I detest gowns, so getting undressed for me is taking everything off including underwear. In those situations, when I'm waiting for the doctor, I'm sitting on the table with just a small paper drape across my lap.

Usually for a full physical, the nurse also does the EKG while I'm still clothed before the doctor arrives. I have my shirt off for that, but everything else is still on. I remember this one time, they got all screwed up in the scheduling of their normal office routine. The nurse had me take off my shirt while she went down the hall to fetch the EKG machine (back then they used real machines -- not just a laptop). Then she came back without the machine and told me there was a change in plans and that the doctor would be ready to see me right away -- she would do the EKG later. She then told me to get completely undressed and wait for the doctor. I stripped completely and got on the table with the little paper drape!

A few minutes went by, then a few more, and even more. Supposedly the doc was about to see me right away, but that turned out to be total BS. I remember the nurse popped her head back in the room one time and told me it would be a few more minutes. Of course, the exam table was facing away from the door, so when the nurse came in, she saw my completely bare ass sitting on the exam table! I didn't necessarily mind that.

After a few more minutes, the nurse came back in with the EKG machine and said change in plans again and that she would now do my EKG because the doctor went to a different patient before me. Sill completely nude (except for the drape), I laid back, she moved the machine into position and started to get me attached. But just then, a knock on the door, the doctor entered and announced that she was ready to do my exam. The nurse left and let the doctor do her thing.

What a total screw-up that physical was. The exam itself was fine, it's just that their office scheduling that day was a total wreck. I don't see that doctor anymore -- not because I didn't like the doctor -- it was primarily because the office wasn't run very well.

But am I self-conscious about my clothing in a pile? No, not really - that never seems to bother me. I used to hide the underwear under my other clothing but now I just throw it on top -- what's to hide?

Glad you asked about setting up the scene, David, since not only can we ask about what underwear someone chooses to wear or other clothes, but are they neatly folded (see angry young man for the military approach) or tossed?

In my case, the long wait came after a n.p. had done the vitals and basics, stething, etc. I had been directed to put a gown on, open in the back, with nothing underneath. I chose to strip to briefs. She finished. I was told that the doctor would be in for the last parts, hernia and? I could hear him on the phone next door, one call after the other, none of which concerned patients. A long, long wait. He showed up and went crazy because I wasn't in a gown. I was angry about the wait, thinking about dressing and leaving.

Not nude for a medical exam, but I have had a long wait in position for injections (bending over with trousers and pants down) because the nurse didn't want me able to see their preparation. Waiting for shots like that was most nerve-wracking because I knew what was coming but not when and the longer I waited in position, the greater the risk the receptionist would find a reason to come in.

The pediatrician's office I went to had a nurses station in the middle with multiple exam rooms around the perimeter. There was a scale for weighing patients just before the first exam room. The nurse would come out to the waiting room, call your name and escort you to the exam room. After a brief work up, the nurse instructed you to undress to your underwear and wait for the doctor. The walls were thin and you could hear the doctor speaking to the nurses about each patient and you could hear the exam being conducted in the room on either side. I was always nervous as everyone could see you as the doctor or nurse entered the room. I myself always tried to peak in on any teenage girl, hoping to catch a glimpse of her sitting there in just her underwear. It was a source of great embarrassment and excitement each time I went for my yearly physical.

I have had many waits of 30 to 45 minutes stripped to my briefs, sitting on the exam table, waiting for the doctor to come in to give me a physical. I have not experienced the nurse coming in with updates on the doctor's arrival time. I have never been self conscious about the way my clothing was set aside I think a wait of this duration is great to add to the anxiety of the exam experience.

One time I had to wait about 45 minutes because the doctor had a problem with another patient who was having a procedure done. Her nurse came in twice to tell me that it would be a few more minutes. I always leave my clothes on the chair in the exam room. I lay them there in the order I take them off. That puts my undies on top. I never worry about it. They are clean, free of holes, and I assume the doctor has seen white underpants more than once.

This has happened to me a few times where I thought that the wait for the doctor while undressed was long. Usually, if the nurse took me back to the exam room and told me to undress, the doctor came in within 5 minutes. But I had one experience of sitting on the exam table in my briefs was maybe 15 minutes and wondering when the doctor would come in and whether the nurse would return first. The doctor came in with an apology for the wait and did the exam. No nurse.

Another time, the nurse took me back, told me to strip completely, and put on an exam gown. Waited on the table for maybe 20 minutes and the nurse stuck her head in the door to tell me that the doctor took a phone call from another doctor but he would be with me in another 10 minutes. So there I sat. I didn't feel that exposed when the nurse looked in but it was awkward only because the gown that I was wearing was short and only came to just above my knees while sitting. If she had come in and sat on the doctor's stool, she would have definitely been looking up my gown. Which the doctor did 15 minutes later.

Not quite the subjet, but related to it, I think.

I remember the long waits we had in the infirmary waiting room when we had the yearlly physical in high school.

Every year, one morning, the nurse would come to the classroom and ask all the boys (or all the girls) to go to the infirmary and take off their clothes (except for their briefs for the boys) and wait to be called for the exam. It lasted several hours for those at the end of the list. Those who had seen the doctor were supposed to dress up and go back to class, but most of them spent some time chating with their schoomates and giving an account of what the doctor had just done to them. As I was allready panicked by the idea of this exam, I found those hours of waiting very stressfull and was of course too anxious to concentrate on a book or even a magazine.

Concerning the girls, according to a friend of mine, they had the instruction to enter the doctor's office wearing only their pants with no bra. So, some of them waited toplless, exposing with no problem their breasts to the other girls and even comparing their respective boobs, the shy ones kept their bra on untill they were called in or tried to hide their breasts, They usually had the smallest breasts and were ashamed of it.

I had to wait in the exam room once for almost a 1/2 hour in my boxer briefs. The doctor was very apologetic as her previous patient had an urgent medical issue that required some extended care. A very understandable excuse. A nurse stuck her head through the door about 20 minutes into the wait and said she could get me a gown which I declined.

My wife waited in a cold exam room with socks and a paper drape and gown for 25 minutes at her last annual exam.

Yes, always for my yearly gyno exam... I sit on the table for a good half hour before the doc comes in. I always pile my clothes on the chair that's in the room.

Does the extensive wait compound the usual anxiety you feel prior to your exam? Do you hear the nurses talking just outside the exam room? Do you ever hear someone else being examined? What is your initial reaction when you hear the doctor knock at the door?

My doctors have always been quick to come in, longest wait was about 10 minutes. My clothes are usually on the chair in the room. I usually have my underwear on under the gown (doctors orders.) I have a new doctor I will be visiting this week so maybe things will change.

Rarely am I undressed while waiting for the doctor, and usually I have not had to wait long for them to come in. The only time I ever remember a nurse returning and coming into the exam room before the doctor was the first time I went to the dermatologist as an adult. She gave the instructions to remove everything, put the gown on with the opening in the back, have a seat on the table, and place the drape over my lap. I asked if there was a bathroom I could use before we got started, she showed me the bathroom attached to the exam room. She told me that when I was finished using the bathroom to undress, put on the gown, and then open the door a bit just to let them know I was ready. I did as instructed and had just sat down on the table and was fussing with the drape when she came in to tell me her & the doctor would be in soon to examine me. She left, shutting the door, and returned with the doctor and another nurse (they were training that day) within a few minutes. Not really sure why she returned before the doctor....

Usually, by time I'm in the exam room, the wait isn't long, just 5-10 minutes at the most. One time, I went to a doc-in-the-box for a physical. After I was in the exam room, they had an emergency come in. I was in the room for over an hour, so long that I got dressed and went out to see what was the delay.

In some cases, I had to wait undressed in the exam room for a longer time between 15 to 20 minutes by some different doctors. The nurses came often back during the waiting time, often they talked to my mom, asked questions and did sometimes preparative exams. Where I had left my undressed clothes was different, most times on a chair in the exam rooms, sometimes in a seperate cabine. I never thought about how or if I left my clothes on a pile.

My experience has been good in that I have had only a couple of times when I was undressed and waiting for the doctor to come for more than 10 minutes. Both times I was undressed to my briefs so I felt more exposed than if I was sitting there in a gown. I had one experience where the doctor had come in and started the exam and then left the exam room to take a call. He left the exam room door almost halfway open and his receptionist station was just across the hall and the door from the reception area into the hallway was a few feet from the exam room that I was in. His exam room had the exam table in the middle of the room and I was sitting in my briefs on the table but facing away from the half open door. He was gone for 5 or 10 minutes and I sat there listening to the receptionist talking to patients and nurses and hearing other people going in and out of the door to the reception area. I didn't get up and close the door as I expected the doctor to come back quicker than he did. So I sat there and wondered how many staff and maybe other patients caught a look at me sitting in my underpants. I was lucky that I was sitting facing away from the door so that I couldn't see who was looking in. It was much of a sight for anyone who looked but had to be a little strange to see some guy in his 20s sitting in his underpants. This doctor was an older guy so maybe he wasn't thinking when he left the door partially open like that.

Yes, waited for long periods in paper robe , clothes were hung up, He (nurse)commented that he didn't see my shorts hanging there and said I will need to take them off too. He stood there while I did it. Felt pretty weird and submissive.

I've never had this problem. In fact, one time the doctor came in just as i was getting the gown on. I hadn't even had a chance to sit up on the table yet.

But, I did attend one of my wife's exams and we waited quite a while after she undressed for the doctor to come in. It was probably only 15 minutes or so but it sure felt a lot longer than that.

A doctor leaving to take a phone call and leaving the exam room door partly open would be a problem for a lot of very modest patients. If you had been sitting on the table in a gown only without underwear and facing away from the door as you were, you would have had been more exposed butt-wise than just sitting there in your briefs so you might have gotten lucky and better off than this doctor's female patients in the same situation.

Worst I've ever had was a maybe 20-minute wait wearing just my skivvies at the dermatologist.

A number of years ago I was in an exam room, fully prepped, wearing a gown, and waiting for the doc/nurse to take me to the room where they would do a rigid sigmoidoscopy. I waited for about 30 minutes and kept peeking out the door to ask many nurse walking by, what was going on. Finally I just gave up, went out into the busy hallway and headed for the closet where my clothes had been put. THAT got their attention and I was examined 5 minutes later.

Gotta say yes here, sitting for a long time in just my underpants, getting cold, wondering why it's taking so long, trying not to let my heart race because I am getting more nervous by the minute!

Back in the 1980s, I had a doctor who was highly respected, had a reputation for being very thorough and he was well liked by the gay community. He was my physician for several years and it was standard procedure to be escorted to an examination room by his nurse, handed a folded paper cover (about the size of an average bath towel) and then told to take off everything, including socks. The first couple of visits felt awkward, sitting on the exam table completely naked with this paper towel across my lap but I've always associated a physical exam with being naked or in some state of undress.

There can be two reasons for which you have a long wait undressed.

it is first in a group examination as it was at my time at mandatory school physicals, sports physicals or summer camp physicals or draft physicals.

Since there was a great number of boys or young men to examin, we were instructed to undress in group in the outer office or in a locker room or a corridor before the examination by the doctor and it lasted often a long time.

At school physicals, the group was about 15 students supervised by a male PE teacher, all the students were instructed to undress quickly in briefs immediately after arriving in a locker room and it lasted a long time, you were called one by one by the female nurse on alphabertic order and if you were one of the last to be called because of your name, you had to wait for about two hours and a half and exposed to the view of the other students and the PE teacher for a very long time.

of course it was the same at physicals for summer camp or for practicing sports since they were generally performed in group

and it was worse at draft physicals where we stayed undressed in the nude for about all a morning and in a bigger group

The second reason is different and happens less frequently

it is when a doctor or a nurse who is in charge of the examination is temporary called outside while you are already undressed.

I have known that situation at a university examination for the second year . I had been instructed by a nurse to undress in a cubicle and once in brief told to enter in the examination room and the female doctor had began the examination when there was a phone calling, she told me that she had to go outside for a while and that I might wait sitting on the table for examination. The nurse get out with her without any explanation and they came back only ten minutes after.

During all this time I was just in brief because I had not been told to dress again and I did not know how long she would be gone out.. It seemed very long and after a few minutes I was beguinning to get cold.

I think that she had certainly a good reason but she might have told me to dress again. When she came back she was in a hurry and treated me more roughly than expected, pulling down my brief herself when necessary to inspect my genitals instead of asking me to do it, and then telling me to remove it to stand in front of her first and then to turn around and bend over and so on .. her voice when giving instructions was more stern, it was visible that she was irritated of course not by me but it was me who was submitted to her bad humor. I was expected to obey to her instructions immediately without any reluctance or hesitation.

Aside this case, I remember also as an adult to have been in such a situation a few times because of a phone calling of the doctor during an examination or the coming of a nurse or a collegue to go outside for urgency.. As they do not know how long it can last, they do not tell you to undress again and in France we have never a gown as a male patient at a doctor's office, so it is always unpleasant but we cannot do anything and generally the doctor asks at you to apologize him after..

It seems the doctor always takes forever to come into the exam room after you had undressed...and is there a rule that all exam rooms have to be ice cold! One would think that hooks would be provided in an exam room, but the ones I have been in never seem to have any to hang one's clothing on, so one usually has to resort to laying one's clothing on an empty chair. Since almost all my exams have been with underwear on, that is not taken off, but I usually hang my shirt over the back of the chair and fold my pants and put them on the seat of the chair with my socks tucked into my shoes on the floor beside the chair. In very cold exam rooms, I will drape my shirt around my shoulders...and the doctor always looks peeved at me when I do that for some reason, but hey, they make you wait for so long almost naked in a very cold room!

Always get undressed and clothes get hung up, shoes and socks by the chair. The nurse comes back in does the weight, bp, temp then leaves. Briefs come off and put with socks. My doctor has no problem with me being naked for the whole exam but then I sit and wait. Doctor is usually prompt, maybe 5 minutes, but one time was 20. Needless to say the chill factor in the room had its effect.
