Did you feel like a baby having your temp taken rectally?

I felt like a baby in my early years but towards my later years I got kind of used to it is that was the way it had to be taken no choice

When I was growing up, in France, rectal was very common even for adults. As far as I understand, it was the standard method in hospitals for children and adults. If you were old enough (and well enough to follow orders), you would be asked to insert the thermometer in your behind; otherwise an adult would do it for you.

I don't recall an adult inserting the thermometer in my behind when I would be old enough to do it myself, so never felt humiliated by this procedure. I endured some other embarrassing, even retrospectively humiliating, medical procedures, but nothing special about rectal temperatures.

As @snowbashful says you don't feel like a baby if you know it's the same method for everybody.

Having my rectal temperature taken in my bottom with a glass rectal thermometer was a procedure that I grew up with. For me, it was a normal process that was used for taking my temperature. at home, and at all of the clinics. Mom, all my older sisters, several of mom's neighbor lady friends, all my older sister's friends, and all the nurses at the clinic always took my rectal temperature in my bottom. They were always gentle when they were taking my rectal temperature in my bottom with the glass rectal thermometer.

All of them had their own unique procedure, but for each rectal temperature check, I was always laying on my tummy on my bed or the clinic's examination table. I was completely undressed, except for my underwear-shorts. These were always lowered to my knees. The temperature-taker always spread my bottom-cheeks apart with their finger and thumb of one hand and always inserted and held the lubricated glass rectal thermometer in my bottom for the full five-minutes with their fingers on their other hand.

The glass rectal thermometer was always held in my bottom for five-minutes. There were many times when it was left inserted for longer than five-minutes. The glass rectal thermometer was twirled numerous times during the five-minute timing. Mom told all my older sisters that it was to ensure an accurate body-core measurement.

For any of these times, there never was a disliking to having my rectal temperature taken in my bottom with a glass rectal thermometer or "I don't want it done like this moment" or "feeling like a baby moment" when I was having my rectal temperature taken in my bottom with the glass rectal thermometer. For me, it was the only way that I knew of having my temperature taken.

Mom told me that she took all my older sister's rectal temperature in their bottom while they were laying on their tummy on their bed when they were younger. She said that all the nurses at the clinics also took their rectal temperatures. As my older sisters grew, all of them asked mom if they could practice taking my rectal temperature in my bottom with the glass rectal thermometer. Mom agreed and said it would be good knowledge for them to learn this. She said they would have this experience when they had their own children. Mom always watched and offered helpful advice to all my older sisters when they were practicing taking my rectal temperature in my bottom.
