Enemas prescribed by Dr. Hay

So are there others out there that have experienced the Dr. Hay detox?

He recommended a harsh purgative every morning for three days followed by three days of high colonic irrigations, in one book. In another he suggested that there be three days of purgative each morning and then an afternoon and evening enema each day. In both cases nothing to eat or drink except much water as can be tolerated with the juice of a lemon or lime unsweetened. I was given one of his books to read as a 16 year old with pimples and told his cure would help me get rid of the pimples. I read the book and decided the means were not that difficult and would give it a try. I then followed his regime, purgative in the morning with an enema every day afternoon and before bed. I also was sent to see a naturopath who gave me a high colonic on the third day. What a terrific experience that was. She also gave me a massage and put me in a steam cabinet. I remember sitting in the waiting room and seeing a beautiful older woman come out after her "treatment" and telling the colonic irrigationist how wonderful and energetic she felt. That is another story for another time.

Anyway after all of this detox and flushing, the pimples disappeared and they stayed away for many months. When they returned I was in college and came home for a long weekend to again take the cure which worked again. In those days we used Pluto water as the harsh purgative first thing in the morning. Pluto is no longer available as far as I can find out. It used to be sold at every drug store in town. It worked within an hour and was completely done its work in about 2.5 hours. Very harsh but effective and frankly a bit more predicatable than magnesium citrate; which can take up to 6 hours to work and complete its work. The pluto water causes "copious amounts of liquid and toxins to be drained from the body and poured out through the colon, thus flushing the colon which is kept clean through the daily use of the enema, said Dr. Hay in his book. Epsom salts will do almost the same thing as the pluto water or Glauber salts which Dr. Hay recommended. be careful with the dosage. It will work but it may take time as every person is different in this respect.

I am currently in my second day of this regime which I have done at least two times a year since I was a teen. I have incredible energy and feel wonderful. The only problem is that it takes time. Before retiring from work, I used to take the purgative as soon as I got home from work, and used the enema first thing in the morning and before bed. The results were the same with great energy and feeling clean and wonderful. I now have more time and do this starting when I get up in the morning. I also incorporate the high colonics at a clinic nearby me, for the third through 6th day of this fast.

Dr. Hay ran a place in New York where you could fast and get his remedy supervised by enema nurses etc. and get daily high colonics, but it closed in the 1930's.

My Mother and her sisters believed in this method to both cure illness and to prevent it. They all took regular enemas as did most of their spouses. I have memories of my parents going on a trip without me, being watched by an older Aunt, catching a cold and being given three enemas a day; before school, after school and before bed for three days to get rid of that nasty cold. It was bittersweet I must say. I'd like to hear from others who may have gotten their start with enemas this was or have taken this type of cure.

Get rid of pimples?? Can you say charlatan?

When I was in my teens, my mother would give me a dose of Epsom Salts whenever my pimples flared up. She told me it would "cleanse my blood".

I got an email from a participant who referred to a similar purge and enema regime by Dr. N. W. Walker. In fact, upon reading the Detoxication (note not detoxification) regime from on of Dr. Walker's books, I think it was Dr. Walker's system that was followed in my household, although the two (N. W. Walker and W. H. Hay) are VERY similar. In current editions of Dr. Walker's book, the entire chapter involving detoxication has been removed. Someone has copied most of it from a prior edition and posted a PDF on the web, for those that are interested in reading it in full.

By Charletan, do you mean me or him? I am not looking for fame, money or anything else. Quackery? Maybe it was, althopugh there were a heck of a lot of them at the time. I am just relaying what I found to be a benefit from a three day fast and repeated enemas, purgatives and steam baths. There are still colonic irrigations available; and there are still lots of homes with enema bags drying on the backs of bathroom doors. They are not just instuments of sexual power or pleasure.

HIM. He's the one who said to do it. The people who believed him were just [I'll be polite] gullible.

No honest practitioner will tell you any number of enemas or colonics will clear up pimples. To get rid of pimples, all you need is soap, water and a facial scrubber pad.

To Switchablesusiee, while I certainly respect your knowledge and education, I respectfully tell you that the soap, water and scrubbies did not work for me (which I tried before I tried the Hay or Walker regime) while the regime did work. By this I mean the pimples dissappeared after about a week or so. Perhaps the pimples were caused by my diet before the regime, which was one of a typical teen in the late '50's involving a lot of sweets and fats; which were all removed from my diet during the three day purge and for several weeks thereafter as I continued a "healthier" eating life style and the enema use. I should also note that neither Hay nor Walker claimed that their detox would "cure pimples". That was attributable to my Mother and Aunts who professed they had the problem when they were teens and their Mother prescribed the routine which they said worked for them. Hay did however think that the detox would help cure the common cold, and whenever I feel a cold coming on I do the fast, purge and enema routine which seems to work to hold of the severity most of the time.

After all the diet and hormone crap [mostly] lay people talk about, what it always comes down to is good cleansing to get rid of the BACTERIA on and in the skin pores and follicles that cause the pimples.
