Scientific Explanation - How fetishes are born within a person?

Does anyone know a good website or other source of information where I can found out how fetishes a born within a person? I am just curious to find out how my brain could turn something as discomforting as a rectal thermometer in childhood into a sexual fetish. It is quite obvious to me that something happening in certain childhood years can trigger a fetish such as spanking or stockings. And because of that I am curious what fetishes people will develop in twenty years since today´s kids are far less subject to rectal thermometers or "classic spanking". I am also curious what other "strange" fetishes may exist out there, just imaging my numerous visits to my grandfather´s wood shop could maybe have triggered a fetish that would require me to place wooden planks next to my bed! :-)

In my case, I think two elements contributed to this fetish.

1. My mother tended to be overprotective and everytime she thought that I did look well, she used to take my rectal temperature. She was allways very nice and gentle doing it, so I came to enjoy those sessions, especially as she used to tell me stories during the time the thermometer was registering.

2. Much later, as I was 17, in the course of the school medical exam, the doctor, who hapened to be a young attractive lady, after the genital exam, asked me to turn around and, then, without notice, she slid a themmometer in my rectum.. i felt humiliated, standing up with a thermometer in my butt, at 17, like a baby, especially as the nurse and the psychologist of the school were present in the room, but I also felt aroused as the doctor had left her hands on my buttocks and I experienced the only erection I ever had in a medical setting in my all life.

I'm not sure that you should describe a rectal thermometer or taking a rectal temp as something that is really discomforting. A thermometer is such a small object after all.

On the other hand it can certainly be an embarrassing procedure to have done, especially after a certain age. And it will most likely be the embarrassment due to situational dynamics coupled with a certain degree of nudity that triggers the development of a fetish, not any actual physical discomfort.

I think that for a boy especially having a women whether its your mother or not. Inserting a thermometer rectally enough times, is sooner or later going to have unintended consequences, that if repeated enough times is going to come in contact with a small but developing prostate that can turn just about anything around from embarrisment to discomfort into something erotic. And make everything associated with it into something erotic. Nurse, Mommy, Thermometers, sights and sound all become part of a newly created nitch in the brain where it is stored and remembered long before any conventual sex is experienced.

I think it was two factors for me... One, the sense of well being in that mom was taking care of me when I did not feel well. Two, mom caressing my bottom as she waited for the temp to register.

Jung was all the fashion back when i was at university. So was the Age of Aquarius stuff ... anyway, I understood that archetypes are something that are supposed exist outside of, and above society and reality. So they are a sort of Ideal concept. Great I suppose.

But how would that fit in with developing a fetish of a sexual nature?

I don't think anybody knows ... all we can do is speculate. During my life I have been terrified of quite a number of things: being in a car with a reckless driver, feeling myself suffocating ... things like that.

Yet no fetish has ever come of such things. In fact, you could perhaps say I have become exceedingly prudent about never being in any of those situations ever again ...

There have to be other reasons for the creation of a fetish. Perhaps fear can play a part, but it is not all there is to it.
