Can I make my own EStim power source?

I once read that there are systems that can work with sounds. So according the sound, it will give you the thrill you like. The waves makes you come to heaven.

Is this a system that can be bought in the specialized shops?

Or what do you suggest then as a system (that works)?

I have had some negative experiences with stereo-stim. There are basically two problem areas. One is danger of short circuits and electrocution or injury....especially with "plug-in units" and non-shielded cable connectors. The second is equally problematic; and that is the danger of temporary (or in some cases, permanent) nerve damage from very high and broad spectrum signal strength and multiple frequencies under high loads.

On the other hand, the commercial tens/electrosex units (such as the 232 and 312 from Sextek) are very safe. They are either shielded if using wall plug power supplies with step-down transformers, and the outputs are regulated for frequency, pulse width (so as not to cook neurons), and are highly controllable and predictable. They both have audio inputs for paying the stereo-stim type of mp3 or wav. files in a safe and highly effective way....I have had HFOs every time from both units from the first tries!

It is not uncommon for there to be some temporary loss of sensation and tingling after even the safe and commercial unit stim sessions.

Stay away from the powerful amplifiers for commercial stereo units!

Stay with the safe and tested battery powered estim devices. It is very dangerous to use computer sound card based generators for estim. Coumpter sound cards are not current limiting along with the fact you could possibly be coupled with the AC mains if there was a fault/short with the computer.

This is a really, really stupid idea. The list of things that could go wrong is infinite, and the cost of a professional solution is not so excessive that it is out of reach.

That said. If you absolutely must do this, you need some precautions.

First - learn something about electronics. Understand what you are doing.

Next - asure that you are absolutely insulated from ground at all times. This more than anything else will help prevent surges.

Put several fast-acting, low current fuses in the system.

Remember, it is not voltage but current which kills. I can easily pass several hundred volts through my system, but at VERY low current. .1 Amp will KILL YOU. PERIOD. A household socket can produce several amps (the only reason I am not dead by now, as I have hit live 120V many times, is because I have a fast circuit breaker which blows after about .5 amps). Measure everything before using it.

Know that Tens units, and similar professionally designed equipment is just that: PROFESSIONALLY DESIGNED. The body is an electrical system on its own, and pushing different signals through it has very different effects. For example, 120V house current is run at 60HZ. This particular frequency does NOT cause heavy muscle contraction (usually), and so often will not lock you to a live wire. But grab a 3-phase 240 line, of a different frequency (I don't know what), and you will never let go, your muscle will clench. The makers of Tens units know what signals do what, and you do not.

Once again, I URGE you NOT to do this. But if you cannot restrain from it, do learn about it before just sticking wires to your dick.

Stereo stim sounds like something to be really avoided.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend building one of these, you are much better off and safer to purchase one.

1.) unless your an electrical engineer don't think you can just build one.

2.) The components would be cost prohibitive as you will have to build a AC to DC power supply that you can change the frequency which I believe the the stimulation occurs due to proper tuning of the the frequency rather than just zapping you.

I would just get a unit that is commonly available, as it will save you aloy of headaches, and hospital trips I would believe.

Stereos are made for speakers not e-stim.

Yes, it is possible to make an e-stim device yourself, and with a little bit of knowledge it is quite safe. You do not have to be an electrical engineer to build one... (I can say this, because I am an electrical engineer and therefore this stuff is no mystery for me).

About the discussion of safety:

To my opinion, cooking is much more risky then electrostim play

* You have to cut meat, fruit or vegatables with a knife: the possibility to hurt or injure yourself is not remote, I believe everyone once in a while cuts himself accidently. But, serious injury is also possible, but the risk is much lower: people kill others or themselves with knifes as well, and it is much easier to kill someone with a knife than with the homemade electrostim devices.

* Also, you use fire, gas, oven etc. Everyone sometimes burns himself. Serious life threatening injury also occurs, but less frequent.

It is all about being cautious. Sometimes you will be shocked a bit, everyone who experimented with selfbuilt devices has experienced this. The current required to give pleasure to male genitals is much higher than is pleasurable on your fingers, arm or leg. So if you accidently touch one of the electrodes with your hands, or the wire with clip slips off and touches your thy, OUCHH...

But that is not serious injury.

Yes, of course you should not play with electricity directly from a walloutlet, that´s just stupid, but even a shock from a wall outlet does in most cases just cause a bit of pain, or unpleasant feeling, but no serious injury or death.

To my opinion, driving a car, or just participate in the traffic is another example of a way more dangerous activity.

Financial considerations:

Creating your own equipment is fun, and can be economically attractive, but it is still development, and you might end up with several ´prototypes´and ´builts´ of your system. You´ll spend a lot of time, as well spend more money than you inicially anticipate.

So, if you are not excited by just the fun of building Do It Yourself stuff, you´re better of by buying one. But start saving for decent equipment like the equipment from Erostek, because simple TENS is quite boring and to my opinion not very pleasurable. It buzzes like a cheap vibrator.

Like all sex, it is about how you use your devices and imagination. It is the intimacy, the lightning, the excitement, the lust, the sensuality, the music, the noises, the smells, the love and care, the trust, the fantasy, all important ingredients for a pleasureable experience. Just using the technique of rubbing your genitals or clit or someone elses does not lead to an unforgettable experience, the above ingredients are as important.

I don't think it's possible to say if it's safe or not without information on the amplifier. If it is a regular audio/hi-fi amplifier there should be no problem if you keep play below the waist.

There is nothing wrong with an MP3 player as the source, synthesisers work well too - especially ones with sequencers. You can also use the audio output of a computer as a source for the amplifier.

The only real consideration with mains powered devices is if a fault develops. It's a long shot, but you do not want mains into your bits.

To play really safe with audio try a battery powered amplifier - there are plenty of battery powered audio amplifiers available and if you want to try DIY (not just for the orgasms) there are amplifier kits too.

Best bang for the buck is a stereo conversion using battery powered computer speakers. You can have a great system with many hundreds of stim files to choose from, Send me a message for more info.

I've been doing e-stim for a few years and started out with some units that weren't well suited for e-stim.

I wanted to start doing audio based stim but the idea of hooking my junk up to a hi-fi amp was too scary because of the potential (pun intended) for cooking my goodies with too much current.

I ended up making my own e-stim box that keeps the current levels very low, is inexpensive and easily portable.

Here's a snippet of my post the other day describing my setup:

A few years back I did some experimenting with making my own device after hearing about audio-based stim. I know that audio amplifiers are capable of producing fairly high voltages, but also have high current levels which can be pretty dangerous.

To mitigate that risk and to keep things lightweight and battery powered, I got a 200mW "Mini Amplifier/Speaker" from Radioshack (277-1008C) as my source of power and used two step-down transformers arranged in series and wired in reverse (turning them into step-up transformers). That raises the output level coming from the mini-amp and greatly lowers the current. I first started using a PC to make my own waveforms and did the playback that way as well. Recently, I began using an iPod to playback my mp3 files. With the mini-amp and the iPod set up about half-way, it more than fulfills my stim needs.

My stim setup makes MORE than enough voltage. Be really careful with volume of the MP3 player and the mini-amp. The first time I accidentally jostled the volume knob on my iPod Nano, I nearly jumped out of my skin.

Setting the output of the mini-amp low and using the iPod to change the level seems to be the easiest way to keep the levels manageable.

Hey guys, I did some quick calculations on power vs current for amplifiers and the reduction you'd see in current if you used a 6.3V : 120V transformer on the output, basically a 19X increase in amplifier voltage level. Keep in mind that 100mW (0.1 Amps) can kill you if it goes to the right places, hence the "keep it below the waist" rule.

First a couple of formula's:

P = Power in Watts (W)

I = Current in Amps (A)

V = Voltage in Volts (V)

R = Resistance in Ohms

I = SQRT(P/R)

I = P/V

200mW (0.2 watts) amplifier with an 8 ohm load puts out 1.26V at 0.158A

10W amplifier with an 8 ohm load puts out 8.94 V at 1.12 A

100W amplifier with an 8 ohm load puts out 28.28 V at 3.5 A

Since power is a constant in the circuit, if you use a 120V - 6.3V (19:1)transformer wired so the 6.3V side is the primary and the 120V side is the secondary, you can raise the output voltage of the 200mW amplifier from 1.26V to 23.94 and decrease current to a much safer 0.008 A.

A second transformer in series would raise the voltage to 454.9 V and the current would drop to 0.0004 A.

it's also possible to make a multi-tap transformer with multiple primaries. One could have 1 turn, another 5, a third 10. The enterprising individual could make a system with multiple ranges of output if they were so inclined. Just make sure that you keep ALL of the ranges well down in the safe range for current level.

I'm also going to say that anything you attempt is on your own dime. Never power anything from mains. If I can't power it with a couple of alkaline batteries, it's too scary for my tastes. Get a reliable multi-meter. ALWAYS check your voltages and current levels. If you fry your goodies or die.. it's on you, not me. 😃

I'd skip using any amplifier more powerful than one watt, since the voltage levels you'd see would be well in excess of what's likely to feel good.

Keep in mind that you should tune whatever system you make with what feels good to you. Just be aware of the dangers of excessive current.

It's possible to wind your own transformers using some toroids or even a small bundle of nails, if you want a 100X increase in voltage use 100 turns for one side and one turn for the other. Pretty simple.

You can use magnet wire from Radio Shack, just be careful not to nick the enamel protecting the wire and use thick enough wire so you don't break it while you're winding it. After continuity testing everything, hook it up to a VERY small amp and see how it feels.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but by the time you get all the parts and spend the necessary time to construct the device, you could have purchased a good working unit.

By the way, you cannot expect that your body will have 8 ohms resistance like a stereo loudspeaker, which by the way, have an IMPEDANCE, not resistance of about 8 ohms

Those numbers are an approximation since everyone's going to show a different load to the amp. they were mostly meant to illustrate how one can drop current to safe levels and be able to construct a unit cheaply. I don't remember how much my mini-amp cost, but counting the connectors, clips, and even the transformers, I probably have less than $25 in it total. Radio shack has everything in stock usually. If I wanted to wind my own transformer, it'd be cheaper still. Just some wire, a few decent size nails and some tape. One should be able to solder. My unit works great and one of these days, I'll wind a transformer rather than using the daisy chained ones.

If you want to try it for yourself, there are some simple devices you can create, using instructions found on the Smartstim website. Just ensure that you never ever use devices that are connected to the wall outlets of your room.

But if you are into serious use, especially involving others, I recommend investing in a commercial device, specifically designed for this purpose.

I have built several devices, and gained quite some experience, but only for self-play. Now I obtained an et-312, mainly because I wanted to use estim during medfet sessions with my play partners.

Devices I built myself, using recommendations on the Smartstim website, as well as my own advanced level of knowledge on electronics, do have similar effects as the et-312, insome cases, even provide more possibilities and sensations.

However, I had some almost accidents, related to some ´errors´ in the self made system: e.g. a wire connection broke, that could have resulted in full power on my genitals, if I would not have noted this. Hurting myself is my own problem, but hurting someone else, without being able to react as quickly is for sure worse!

I have not heard of any bad experiences with an et-312 failing and causing accidents, which is a good indicator about the quality of such a product, as it already on the market for a long time. Making a prototype is easy, but building a quality, fully tested, reliable commercial product is completely different. It can be done of course, but definitely not cheaper than buying a commercial off the shelf device!

Unless you get turned on by making your own I agree with the one who said by the time you buy everything needed to make a e-stim device you could buy more than one that you know would work and be safe

Hardly worth getting the soldering iron out, I'd suggest (though I confess I did alter the connecting plugs to the more usual 2mm jacks) and certainly you have a safe piece of equipment.

Before I start my rant, my qualifications: I have been a practicing electrical engineer for almost 40 years, and at one point in my career (before my company decided to get out of that business) was involved in developing medical instruments. I am pretty familiar with the design issues and principles involved, and I totally agree with those who warn DON'T TRY IT! One of the things you would do when developing any system where failures can cause critical problems, like medical systems or aerospace stuff that I do today, is something called a fault tree analysis. You look at every credible failure in the system, and determine its consequences. In a medical system, any failure that might put a patient at risk must be eliminated.

How many of you are qualified to do this kind of design and analysis? And even for the few who might be, there is another essential step called a design review or peer review. This is where you get a group of engineers together, all of whom are familiar the the design, and basically constructively criticize it. Even the best engineer on earth still can make mistakes, and this kind of review helps catch most of them.

A final step before a system goes into production is called qualification testing, where the system is put through all the possible operating modes, normal and failures, that the test team can devise. And just to avoid any possible biases, the test team is never the group that did the design, and usually reports to the quality assurance department, rather than engineering.

You ready to do all this?

I think not!

Leave the design, construction, and testing of this kind of equipment to the professionals!

WOW... Someone has a short circuit somewhere....

I have been using my homemade e-stim boxes for over 7 years without one fault. (unless you say being addicted is a problem). Last count over 200 have been built using smartstim.com guidelines. Battery operated, so no 110v to the nuts. Why is there always some doom and gloom person where ever you go. I have a better chance of getting hurt crossing the street. By the way I have been EE since 1972, designing & testing electronic circuits since 1976.

Ok sky bear, you already indicate you are an electrical engineer, experienced in circuit design, therefore a professional by definition. It requires quite some skills to understand what you are doing or talking about, and we should assume that most of the readers of this forum do not posses a degree in electrical engineering.

It is your own responsibility, and risk. Anyone has to make this trade off by himself. But if you hook up others, I would say you should take less risk.

Life threatening danger with self made devices on small batteries is not so likely, but still malfunctioning can occur, and result in very unpleasant experiences, if no built in test shuts off the equipment in case of failure! We are talking about exposing our most sensitive parts to this, and even worse, our partners...

After experimenting myself with home made equipment, I now prefer to rely on a commercial device, that is just very convenient, and allows me to concentrate on the play...

DYI highly modified 4 watt stereo with mp3 files from smartstim.com using their free Player II. I have over 150 different files made especially for e-stim. The player II can be programed to automatically switch to different files as your mood desires. Great setup for 20 to 30 bucks.

My favorite anal electrode is my modified Aneros. Gives great pulsing feeling at the same time the cock is buzzing or the player can alternate between the electrodes.

I have tried many times to make stereo-stim systems utilizing small audio transformers for voltage increases......with some success. The problem seems to come in after a few times with successful stim sessions and many hands-free orgasms (using pre-recorded sound files from the internet).......the system seems to lose the effectiveness. The problem seems to be one of deadening the nerves necessary to trigger orgasm and ejaculation. The "constant" nature of the voltage seems not to be good for the neurology involved. I believe that commercial systems like the Sextek 312 are much better suited for repetitive use......and safer.

Because E-stim is not a large industry, one must realize every "commercial device" was at one time designed in someones garage. That includes the original TENs. There are more DYI devices being used for E-stim than commercial ones. BUT to each his own, everyone decides what is best for them.

Enjoyed your little poo poo post. I was trying to count how many individuals have tried my E-stim boxes (including the 312 that I own). For my taste the Max-E-stim (photos in my gallery) is small, convenient, uses MP3 files and gives lots of pleasure without being overwhelming like the 312. It is always a big hit at the swingers club meetings.

In summary: To each his own, read all the information available & make an informed decision then proceed.

I have wanted to try stereo-stim for some time. I have an ET-312, and I'd like to understand the difference. I'm in Manhattan, New York City. Anyone nearby who would let me plug into your stereo?

I originally experimented with this many years ago before there were specially designed devices. My wife hurt her back and the doctor prescribed a TENS device, I attached the electrodes to my penis and it was wonderful.

I constructed a small electro stim with a 12V power supply... and are wonderfulll...

The effects you enjoy from estim are going to depend on

1/ The voltage

2/ the frequency

3/ The quality of the connection

If music is use to control the output voltage will be equivalent to the volume.

Frequency equates to pitch but will be composed of multiple signals. different sounds will be more or less a single pure frequency

The quality of the connection will affect the voltage dry skin is much less conductive and therefore sensitive than damp skin.

Has anyone made any measurements or controlled experiments into these factors?
