Just an idea: the "online exam" guide

Hi there … :😃

a lot of people around here are still wondering what an “online exam” might be or how it is done. And to be honest I'm not an expert myself, because so fare I've done only two and like I said, that really doesn't make me the “go-to” person for all the different questions out there. But I had an idea (I know I'm really smart … lol … ok enough about me back to my idea) maybe we “all” could create some sort of “ online exam guide ” which contains all the necessary information we can find and some extras like personal experiences and so on.

Let's just start with the different ways to perform an online exam and all the things you need.

maybe stuff like:

* webcam

* instand messenger

* pictures (if you don't like the webcam idea)

something like: fully clothed, in your underwear, naked from the front and naked from the back

* your imagination

* clinical history (pre-appointment medical questionnaire)

* and so on and on ...

And because I mentioned the whole personal experience thing above … I'll go first and give you an example … lol … my first “online exam” experience:

My first “online exam” was awesome (maybe because it was my first one). I never thought that it would work, but it did. After a few minutes I could imagine the whole thing in my mind. I scheduled the appointment for Thursday 26th July at 7pm. It was a “female” health exam. First I had to fill out a complete medical history form and then return it to the doctor's office. At the beginning of my appointment the doctor and I run through my medical history. For my first exam I did something, I never did before. Since I have no webcam (and I'm really not a big fan of the idea) we had a little problem. But I'll just took some pictures with my cell phone: fully clothed, in my underwear, naked from the front and naked from the back. And it worked, I mean knowing that the “doctor” was able to see me like a real doctor was really not bad. It made the whole exam more realistic.

So now I hope together we can create that little “ online exam guide ” … and answer all the remaining questions.

Sounds like a good idea. Nice thinking kaileewhite. I'm also not an expert though I have had afew online exams. I actually have not done them with pictures though. It depends, if you have a good imagination, then you should be fine with a physical description, but if you like it more personal, pictures or webcams might be the way to go. If you are going to be using pictures, or any other type of equipment, (stethoscope, thermometer...) then have that all ready so there's not a big time gap. This also helps keep it more realistic that way there are no interjecting "are you there" questions. Hope that this is helpful.

That sounds pretty exciting to me. I dont think the webcam will be a problem if its set up right.And of course there are a lot of stories which can serve as the script for the examination. I think its a great idea.

I think good descriptive text, a vivid imagination are the most important, cam and photos could be useful however not essential.

I believe that the more info the better....web cam or phone is great

Just speaking for myself I've done phone exams and r/t exams.. but I do agree for those who are just looking to play.. phone and cam might work. I see no reason why this has to be a big issue, as long as you find some one who you enjoy playing with..just let your imagination take care of the rest.

DrBob, you hit my problem right on the head. My typing is the hunt and peck method and I would be worried that the other party would be loosing interest. My imagination works just fine but even chatting I feel sometime I am two questions behind everyone else. that is the main reason I have not done much of either.

My typing used to be terrible. To tell you the truth I'd probably credit chatting online with improving my skills though. You don't have to have perfect spelling or grammar or even super long responses when you chat with people though. If you wanted to type something longer type in lines, maybe two sentence increments, use an ellipse (...) if your still typing and just let your skills grow as you get more familiar with chatting. Also, common words that are used in exams come quickly, for example, I can type "yes doctor" like it's my name. Try not to let a lack of speed while typing inhibit you. Some people may want a fast conversation and prompt replies, but others will be just fine with you learning and going a little slower.

For those who do not understand online exam. If there is one in your area to conduct a face to face the online exam is the next best thing.

Online exams can be fun, especially if you have a good imagination; using the cam is great, I do them frequently with a friend who is a long distance from me, and it's cool!

I hope to be able to do a virtual exam one of these days... soon.

Online exams are the limit of my play; I love them, but only with smart, literate doctor. I follow along, usually, stething myself, taking my own temperature, examining my own breasts. It can be a huge amount of fun with the right partner.

Kailee has some great ides. ive done countless cyber exams both on cam and just typing. if possible i like a pre-exam form done. some have sent pics some are not comfortable sharing them.

I did an online exam with a lovely lady on this site, but we did it on messenger. It is very demanding of the person doing the exam (me). I accomplished what she sought and she complimented me on my knowledge of anatomy. My suggestion is to let the cam alone, let your mind get into the scene. Fantasies are always perfect. Another thing, typing, I am sure anyone here can read typonese. To correct a typo can be distracting, if it is decernable, don't worry about it. It is the moment that needs to be built on. I like to paint a picture of what I am seeing, everything, in detail. Somehow I don't enjoy it as much as the patient, but I enjoy giving the pleasure.

I Have been doing cyber exams for years now. I love them they are really great. I have done them with webcam, Pics, and descriptions, but they are all fun but the webcam is the most enjoyable. I also like to chat with the patient several time about her real exasm to find out what she likes and what turns her on at her real appointments. Have fun.

I remember doing exams in Nozz and Enemapalace on mIRC in the 90's and early 2000s. What was exciting was to open a room and have a select group of 3 or 4 and we would do an exam on the patient in the room. There came a point though that the exams began to sound the same, the sequence the same, the phrases used...the same. I enjoyed them but after several years I quit trying to do them in these places. I have had only a couple phone exams and those were delightful however...they also felt scripted. For me...I hunger for contact with real people...real touch... real instruments. Too bad that so few are willing to explore in real time or if they are willing to explore...they want to charge you ...to run their script. Perhaps in my mid-50s I've become cynical and given up hope...almost.

@ Storyguy - Typonese, that's a scream! I'm sure I've heard the word before, but it never struck me as funny until just now. A little slow on the uptake I must be.

My partner has a classic example of Typonese - he never fails to type "hiney" when he means to say "honey". Hiney is not one of the words I am most fond of, but I now consider it one of my favorite terms of endearment. When he was in the ICU last month after CABGx4, his typonese was ATROCIOUS. I knew that was the morphine, the after-effects of the heart/lung machine and the anesthesia doing the typing for him. It took him extra long to type anything, and it took me extra long to decipher it. It was worth it though, it was his way of letting me know he'd made it through surgery and was interested enough in the goings-on around him to communicate with the outside world. Gotta love technology.

As for on-line exams, I am a great fan of doing them via IM. I am also not partial to the Webcam, from either end. I would much rather let the imagination (mine is still pretty active) have a go at filling in the blanks. I really don't need to see all the tender pink parts to know what's going on!

Real medical practice is moving to virtual consultations. There are even robots in some hospitals (usually university medical centers) that "make rounds" while the doctor is in his/her office. There is a video camera on the robot, and a screen so the patient can see the doctor (makes it less inpersonal.) Some are even self guiding, but the one i have seen has a nurse go with the robot and do any manipulation or sample collection the doctor needs.

I could see a fun way to do an exam remotely with the patient and their "friend". The doctor would do the exam, question the patient, and direct the friend to use the video - to see the patient, examine head, neck, breasts, abdomen, genitals (lets not leave out the guys!)

It would be safe, and not limited by geography. I'll have to work on that!

I like the idea of my and my doc using imagination nothing is better than the way you picture it in your mind! having a few props as you go along is great 2! -Linda

Wow, all this reading I've been doing on these exams makes me really want to do one. Through typing chat only though, as I have several...personal and mental reasons why I hide myself. This would be fun and if anyone wants to be my doctor, I'm up for any takers.

This sounds fun, but I'm still to nervous to actually try it yet. Maybe just typing, cause I'm shy.

But on another note, do you have to have equipment? I don't and I can't readily get them.

I prefer text online exams. I've found that a simple system can help everyone involved. " " can be used for speech or speech by a secondary character like when I use nurses and I'm the doctor. * * or ( ) can be used to show actions, reactions, and thoughts. And (( )) or anything more than one ( ) can be used to talk outside of the scene if need be....Like say you have to leave the scene in the middle or you have a question or something like that.

I prefer online exams over Skype, Yim or Gchat, with either just audio or video as well. The woman's voice is so important to the experience for me. An occasional visual (BP cuff) can be nice as well, but can sometimes be cumbersome at times as well.
