Anyone had hemorrhoid banding?

What was it like? How was the diagnosis made and was the procedure done then or later? Describe the procedure if you can.

I'd like to hear some experiences on this as well. I've had this problem once (after a few days of constipation) but it went away. I bet the exam and procedure are interesting 😉

I'm curious as well as my mate has some issues in this area. I suspect we are getting to the point where something needs to be done, be it minor or major remains to be seen.

I have had hemorrhoid surgery twice now and both were 100 percent effective. I didn't have mine banded though. They were cut open and the clot was removed, the excess skin was trimmed off. The vein that was causing the issue was cut back and stitched, then the opening was closed with a stitch or two. I was a little sore for a few days, but the surgery itself wasn't bad really. I would do it again if I had to.

I have had 3 banded. The process is pretty straight forward. I arrived at the doctor's office (GI practice) and the nurse took my history etc. told me to undress from the waist down. Doctor and nurse returned and examined my hemorrhoids via anoscope. Once identified the nurse set up the banding gun, the doctor then banded them, I dressed and was on my way. There was a follow up exam about 2-3 weeks later.

I've had 2 banded; primary care MD checked with his gloved finger (same procedure as a prostate exam) to see if he could find out why I was bleeding.

Off to urology later that week for the diagnosis; on my hands & knees on the exam table wearing just a shirt, dr inserted two different scopes & a light to verify that there were hemorrhoids just inside the tailpipe.) They did the banding at the same time, soon as they confirmed the problem.

The whole procedure was about 20 minutes start to finish, they had me kneel on one end of an exam table knees spread apart, the middle of it was raised to support my chest & stomach. Tray off to one side that held a scope, the banding gun, and a LONG needle that they threw a towel over as soon as I said "WHAT'S THAT??"

Felt a sting, probably the needle with anesthetic; 10 minutes while he banded them one at a time, each one took about 2 minutes and wasn't really uncomfortable, loud SNAP when he banded each one and felt a pinch inside my ass at the same time.

Went back to work and after about 1 hour, started to regain feeling and my butt started to REALLY hurt. Increased for about 2 hours and just as I thought I'd have to leave or go back to the dr. (felt like a sharp rock had been inserted) the pain stopped. Remainder of the week I had a feeling of fullness and a slight ache in my butt; lasted about 5 days then gone. The bands just sloughed off, never noticed when they were gone - job done, they fall off somewhere along the line. Followup appt couple weeks later took about 5 minutes, he looked inside with a scope & said "Done!"

Haven't needed to have it done again in the almost-10 years since, but wouldn't think twice about it if needed - quick & relatively painless

Had it done most recently in Southern California by a female rectal surgeon. Very professional, quick, and not very painful at all. Strip from waist down, kneel on a small platform the end of the exam table, nurse covers you with a sheet, and you both wait for the doctor. When she comes in, says "let's have a look", table rises up and tilts forward, sheet disappears and I'm ready to be inspected. She applies lots of cool surgical lube and slowly slides one, then two gloved fingers in. In less than 30 seconds, the diagnosis is confirmed, and she asks if I want them fixed now or some other time. I say now, and within 5 more minutes she's banded the two culprits.

She says to take some Tylonol for any pain or discomfort, and in 2 or 3 days, the veins will die and drop off.

Real easy - wish I had done it sooner!

Had it done a couple of times. I usually have some discomfort afterwards for a day or so. It feels as if I have to have a bowel movement really bad. The doc gave me some vicodins to take and it eases the discomfort. I understand the banding is much better than the old methods of removing them; cutting or cryosurgery.

I may have to have this done, or possibly a coagulation procedure. I'm pretty scared.
