Is today's female clothing showing too much?

I'm 68 and remember the joy of imagination. I'm talking about a young lady dressed attractively not showing everything at the first glance. There was a lot for the imagination involved back then. The miniskirt came and maybe you would catch a glimpse of something once in a while. Then the micro-skirt came and you could maybe catch a better glance for a split second. The imagination was a big part of the game. Sitting in the college library getting a peek under the tables, or at a restaurant. In grade school I came around a corner and bumped a girl in the chest. Her bra was dented since the tissues in there didn't fluff up again. Later on a school trip she and a friend sat in front of us and reclined their seats and I and friend saw the tissues in the bras.

AND I can't forget the fight between the new tramp and the old tramp in grade school. The old tramp was trying to pull the blouse off the new tramp to show the boys the fakes hiding in the bra.

Now at the first glance you know it all. The size of the vulva, how big the breast are. Yeah she has the equipment. Blah blah blah.

For any young ladies here, remember if you have implants you will never be able to go into space because your boobies might explode. Of course they might also get larger in a plane at 30,000 feet.'

Of course the beaches in Rio and Sydney were also something to be remembered. I tease my wife about the dark bronze tans in Rio, and the lighter bronzes in Sydney.

I feel truly sad for the young men today missing the excitement and mystery of yesteryear.

Don't sweat it. The men today are doing just fine and we women and our daughters are feeling great in our skin.

Consider yourselves lucky that we feel good enough about ourselves to show it to you.

I agree with you Susie. Women today may be showing more skin, its true. The main point is that they feel comfortable with their body and the skin they're in and not have the phobias and psychosis due to media pressure or due to outdated ideas of yesteryear.

I really don't get concerned about boys seeing girls or girls seeing boys. If you think they haven't seen EVERYTHING on the internet, or the Playboy channel, you're deluding yourself. Kids seeing what the opposite sex looks like isn't a problem. Their having unprotected sex is. One does not necessarily lead to the other if their parents have imposed guidelines and given education.

As someone that enjoys seeing a naked woman a lot I am happy to enjoy all they want to expose as often as they care to expose it!

There is a time and a place for everything. Some places, like court, church, & workplace, usually require more conservative dress. However lots of people in the United States are too prudish. As a person who visits nude clubs & resorts, I enjoy the freedom of being nude & enjoy being with people who leave their clothing behind. I have been at weddings or other events where some women are dressed way too revealing, but on the beach, boat, hot tub, ect. show it off.

I love expressing myself. I love the fresh air on my naked body. when I'm home I like being naked.

Living in a European city that has a large population of foreign born inhabitants, one sees all many of clothing styles, from skimpy to all covering. This last certainly doesn't show anything at all and should therefore augment the 'mystery' most effectively, in theory at least.

However, there is nothing so soul deadening and off-putting as seeing a lady doing her utmost to hide all traces of her body. And sadly, this is becoming more prominent than the opposite fashion of revealing more and more. I really cannot say from experience that women are revealing more and more. People may get a confused impression from 'seeing' in the media, but that is not the same as actual seeing on streets and in public. Aside from recreational areas and places like nude beaches, I seriously cannot say that females are wearing less and less. I wish they would though, it is ever so much more pleasant to see.

With women wearing pants as a matter of course nowadays, they do in fact cover up more of their bodies than when wearing dresses. And yet, women wearing trousers is also considered by many to be inappropriate. In fact, when I look at old war-time photos of the Occupation years and thereafter, it looks as if women's fashions were often at their skimpiest and shortest. And the same went for that of adolescents of both genders - of course due to shortage and expense of cloth.

But that last aside, I really can't say that outside of the pretend and fantasy-like world of the media, I see much evidence of females wearing less and less and revealing more and more. People who disapprove of modern society in any numerous ways for any number of reasons, often like to use this complaint about loose morals in clothing to bolster their arguments, but that doesn't mean it isn't just mainly in their own imagination.

I think what I was trying to express is the "thrill of the hunt" or "Life is like a cross country train ride. We all know we will get there, it's the little stops along the way that we should enjoy."

At least I think it is for the guys.

When I was 14, the dad of a schoolmate used to drive us to school. (fifteen miles) His mom always greeted us in a see through nighty. That was fun.

He's very familiar with what a female body looks like. That doesn't mean he needs to see a woman half naked at the grocery store. He's being taught to respect women. "Too much" is highly subjective. You may not agree with the lady's choice of clothing or you might consider her garb inappropriate but if a woman is comfortable with what she is wearing, then, except in rare instances, there is nothing wrong with it. Not everyone wears the same style and it would be boring if they did. With styles ranging from ultra-conservative to provocatively sexy, those who like to use their imagination have plenty to choose from. If you like crinolines and calf length skirts, that is fine. As for me, the micro-mini skirt, cheeks hot-pants, and bra-less look are still my favorites!

I interpreted it to be in everyday life also and if your son is over 12 he has seen Playboy magazine or Playboy TV somewhere, and I was going to say 9 or 10 because I know my daughters did well before then.

At work it's another story. Employees must maintain a professional decorum, but once the 5 o'clock whistle blows, it's whatever floats your boat.

I don't see any problem with one sex seeing the other at all. The fact is MEN can show more skin than women. They wear topless bathing suits and Speedos or walk around without their shirt all the time. What's so special about the breasts that they need to be covered? It's only a gland.

No one complains about seeing a cow's udders. No one complains about seeing a naked dog, cat or monkey. No one complains about seeing ANY animal naked, except humans.

WE'RE NO DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER ANIMAL. Once you get that, the rest is easy.

I remember a time when I was gainfully employed at a factory, a young lady came to work dressed in a top that was very revealing. I never seen her, but was told about it by my supervisor. Her top was fastened together by a shoestring laced in hole from bottom to top, and and left open quite a bit. From what i was told, all the guys in that area kept going over to look at her to see is anything was hanging out or open enough to see her breasts. After a time, the supervisor in that area sent her home to change clothes, as what she was wearing that day was enticing guys and not much work was being done and anyone.

I like to see a bit of sexy dressing such as spotting that she is wearing a thong under a tight skirt, and I also love seeing skin, but saying that I also think that a woman totally covered and wearing figure hugging clothes is also sexy.

There's the thing of showing a bit of flesh and losing respect for yourself. But if your confident enough to wear revealing clothing then go for it, but in appropriate situations i.e. not a food store! I wear revealing clothing and it doesn't bother me. We live in a society where everyone competes to find a partner and it just so happens we are wearing less clothing when we do so. I agree with susies comment that we are animals and we don't have an issue with any other animal being on show. This is very true. Clothing keeps us clean and warm because we don't have a fur coat but in some countries and tribes their clothing is very minimal, some women even baring there chests. Also about men, they can walk around more or less 100% naked but that's fine, women how ever must cover their top halves, the simple glands and fat that is in place behind the nipples that men also have.

I don't agree or disagree with the comment but I do think there is that line over going too far with it.

I don't think so, when I worked in Manhattan I was speechless at the throngs of gorgeous, tight skirted girls that swarmed the streets.. As I moved across the country I saw less flesh and more conservatism. When I lived in places where people were huge, I appreciated that! But I prefer to see some low cut shirts and my fav is the female leg, so I look forward to the mini skirt returning.

There are some "sights" around I will admit, whether it be male or female attire. As with everything each to their own. I do wear low cut tops at times and have to be careful when bending forward as that leaves nothing to the imagination, especially if I am bra-less lol.

I quite enjoy seeing a man in shorts or trousers that may be a tad too tight 😈 and I am sure some chaps relish a lady in something revealing.

The last time that I spent 5 days at an all inclusive Mexican resort, both genders had it all out on display.... I am sorry to report that most of the display ranged from over weight to obese and was a turn off for me. Even relatively attractive 20+ year old girls showing full bikini tops but also showing the beginnings of little pot bellies. I think I probably saw fewer than 10 people who were really worthy of displaying what they had. I was actually repulsed by sharing the dining rooms with people who were helping themselves to obscene amounts of 'all inclusive' food and drink. I spend a lot of time in Europe and I see nothing on a scale like this. I am sorry to say it, but I think North America is in trouble.

I love about lingerie and slutty dress in public. Not a huge fan of TINY beachwear, but I like sufficiently revealing and slutty clothes for going out. I guess I'm a closet cf or somewhat-cf fan. Anyway, it drives me nuts when people are like, "who cares about lingerie, you only have it on 10 seconds...". Now way. Pull it to the side, down partway, open crotch -- whatever. But it's staying on for the night!

Why are females always being judged for their choice of clothing????????? Americans have so many hang ups about their bodies. Go to a beach in Europe. Men walk around in skimpy speedos. So what? Women being topless on television is accepted in Europe. Families in Japan bathe together. I used to roll up my longer skirt up into a mini skirt, and unbutton my blouse a bit in middle and high school, because my parents were SO strict. I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I attended high school, yet I still borrowed my girlfriends' blue eye shadow, mascara, and lipstick in the morning, then spent the afternoon trying to wash it off, because my parents would punish me if they saw that makeup on me!! Everyone wore tight jeans and mini skirts. How about the Disco Days? Very sexy clothes then. BTW, men were dying in Vietnam daily, and that was the MOST OBSCENE THING I HAVE EVER WITNESSED ON TELEVISION WHILE GROWING UP, WAS YOUNG MEN BEING SENT HOME IN BODY BAGS!!!!!!

My daughter and her friends are in their mid 20s. I have NEVER seen them dress like "hookers, sluts, whores", or in poor taste.

When I go tubing down the river, should I wear a wet suit OR a cute bathing suit and cut offs? When I go out on a date, should I dress like a Victorian woman?

I think fashions change all the time. I see women that dress appropriately for work, depending on the level of the profession. I see women dress quite tastefully at weddings, because it's the Bride's day. I think most women know how to dress appropriately for the occasion.

I think it's fair to say that young women and even teenage girls these days are dressing sluttier.. Does it mean they are sluts? HELL NO. but it does portray an image that is not (in the North American culture) in their best interest. I've taught in many High Schools and the stuff that some of the girls wear to gym class even had me feeling so old and dirty for noticing but hey, that's the reaction they are looking for and the only thing we can do as parents is to warn them that although it's a choice they make, the possibility of them coming across the wrong person(s) while wearing such attire can place them in danger.

Women these days aren't stupid... They know that a bit of skin can get them things and most of them use this advantage to it's highest level, and again, why not? I would if I was a hot chick. Guys do it too BUT, typically, we are seldom in a situation where our good looks and choice of clothing can get us gang raped or sexually assaulted.

To me it's a bit sad that most high school girls these days are more concerned with their looks and being popular than they are with actually learning stuff and participating in sports. We also had a lot of those when I was in high school but not as many as there are now IMHO

I was just looking at my granddaughter's photo site. (No, you dirty old men, I will not provide a link.) She is an astonishingly beautiful young lady. Sometimes she dresses very provocatively too. I have to say that she has mastered to art of seeming to show everything while actually showing nothing.

Yes, many of the young folks out there dress like a pole dancer. It takes a bit of talent to dress sexy without being slutty.

Just the other day my wife and I went to a local restaurant for breakfast and a young lady(16 -1😎 she had on a sweet shirt and saddles and nothing else - bar panties shorts nothing - got to love these kids ?

I could say that there are some styles of clothing that really are off putting - but that's because of the esthetics involved, or the ostentatious connection to an expensive price. Some types and styles of clothing simply look nice and others just don't look attractive at all.

But - that has nothing whatsoever to do with being skimpily dressed or too revealing. I am rather grateful at times that ladies can dress however they wish to, with as much or as little clothing to cover their bodies. It is simply an attractive and pleasant sight to see in public. And once it becomes an accepted practice and people see that the heavens do not come crashing down amongst them and that perdition is not the reward for such behavior, then it just becomes a fashion style, nothing more.

And I'd say that most societies are better off for it as well. Which woman in her right mind would want to adhere to some of the strict clothing requirements as is prevalent in certain other cultures? All it seems to do is cultivate sexually frustrated young men who use violence as a surrogate. I know the old argument that hiding parts of the body can be titillating, but in these cultures it has become a question of possession, control and repression of females.

I too have to say: gotta love those clothing styles. And moreover, it's a woman's own body. She can wear whatever she wishes.

But America is bombarded with images of beautiful and sexy women via all forms of media. Sex sells. Look at Barbie. Look at the women in the porn industry. Look at models. Those aren't images of normal women. Females are praised for being beautiful and thin. Every man wants to date or marry a sexy beautiful woman.

There's nothing wrong with wearing sexy clothes. There's nothing wrong with looking hot. Life is short, so if a man or a woman wants to look sexy or slutty, so what? My point is that men aren't judged for their appearance the way women are by society in general.

Each generation shocks the previous one with their clothes, music, new ways of thinking. That's just normal.

It's certainly up to parents to teach their children values and morals. As far as dressing provocatively in school, there are dress codes and uniforms.

But blaming the way a female dresses for getting raped is like saying that listening to rock music is corrupting the youth. Or watching horror movies or violence on TV will send sociopaths running to commit similar crimes.

Men get raped in prison all the time. Gay men or Transvestites might get raped as well. Rape is a crime of violence. It doesn't matter what a person wears.

Btw, it's a fact that there are more women attending college than men now. So women are driven to succeed, are motivated and ambitious, and they can dress however they choose.

They're waiting longer to marry and are independent.

I've always been amazed and charmed by many of those 'public nudity' photo series. Where girls undress and go shopping, buy a drink in a café, walk along a shopping street in a town or wherever ... and all undressed and naked ... I have the impression these series are often taken in Germany, Czech Republic, central Europe ...

It's fun to see the reactions of passersby who invariably seemed amused or pleased to see such lovely apparitions.

The point being, that people, girls, women, should be able to walk around like this without the expectation of being accosted, or violence done to them or whatever ... maybe it's not the norm, certainly not with the climate being as it is (ha ha) ... but even so, even walking around naked is not the cause for any untoward behavior by anyone else ...
